Charlton Toy Library is a Registered Charity offering stay and play sessions and a toy/book borrowing service.
Charlton Toy Library is a Registered Charity set up in 1982 by a group of parents & carers who met on a regular basis with their children. They took turns in running it from their own homes. We now have our own premises and are run by a voluntary Management Committee made up of Toy Library members and individuals. We provide a comprehensive support service for families living in Greenwich, support

This week we are playing with these colourful pull along toys. The toy dog has the alphabet on and the caterpillar has numbers. Toys like these help young children with early literacy and numeracy skills whilst having fun!

* Toy of the Week *
This week we are doing some DIY with handy Manny!
Playing with toy toolkits enhances a child’s development by building fine motor skills, teaching cause and effect, and encouraging imaginative role-play. Handling wrenches, hammers, and screwdrivers refines hand-eye coordination and boosts problem-solving abilities as kids figure out how parts fit and work together.

No we haven’t shrunk our clothes in the wash (and I definitely didn’t buy clothes for the dog!) 😄.
We’ve had an amazing donation of Build the Bear outfits and accessories and they’re all washed and ready to go on our shelves for borrowing along with a lovely teddy bear! 🧸

* Toy of the Week *
This week we are playing with a lovely set of diggers.
Acting as a construction worker or site boss allows children to engage in imaginative play and create endless scenarios, boosting their creativity and communication skills.

A big thank you to Councillors David Gardner (also the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich) and Jo van den Broek, who represent Charlton Village & Riverside Ward, for taking the time to visit Charlton Toy Library this week.
During their visit, David and Jo met with our trustees and staff team, observed one of our stay-and-play sessions, and heard more about the support we provide to local children and families throughout the year.
It was a valuable opportunity to discuss how we can work together to strengthen outreach across the ward, demonstrate the impact of early intervention, support children’s school readiness, and explore future partnerships and funding opportunities.
We’re grateful for David and Jo’s continued interest in our work and their commitment to the families of Charlton Village & Riverside. We look forward to working together to ensure Charlton Toy Library continues to make a positive difference in our community.
Thank you both for your support.

* Toy of the Week *
This week we are playing with stacking toys.
Stacking toys offer incredible developmental benefits for babies. They build crucial fine motor skills, improve hand-eye coordination, and promote spatial awareness as little ones learn to balance, place, and size objects. These simple toys also teach early problem-solving and cause-and-effect.
