Professor Knight is Director and Professor of Maternal and Child Population Health at the University of Oxford and Programme Lead for the MBRRACE-UK Confidential Enquiries into Maternal and Perinatal Deaths and Mortality.
A leading maternal and population health expert, her work focuses on preventing severe complications of pregnancy and early life and addressing disparities in outcomes for women and babies across different population groups. She brings exceptional expertise in maternal health, epidemiology, population health and health equity, with a distinguished track record of generating and translating evidence to improve care and outcomes.
Her expertise is particularly valuable to Canvas Bridge as we work to strengthen evidence-informed and equitable approaches to maternal and mental health, connecting research, policy, practice, and lived experience to improve outcomes for women and babies across diverse and underserved populations.
We are delighted to have Professor Knight as part of our Advisory Board and look forward to the continued contribution her expertise and leadership will bring to Canvas Bridgeโs growing work across the UK, Guinea, and beyond!

Thank you. What a wonderful beginning! ๐
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the inaugural Canvas Bridge Conversations and the official launch of the โจDiaspora Mums Initiativeโจ such a meaningful occasion.
To our inspiring speakers, participants, audience members, advisory board members, partner organisations and everyone who contributed behind the scenes, thank you for your time, expertise, generosity and belief in this vision.
To those who registered but were unable to join us live, thank you for your interest and support. We look forward to connecting and exploring opportunities to collaborate in the months ahead.
One message was clear: there is a strong appetite for conversations on maternal and mental health and for stronger cross-country collaboration. We were inspired by the commitment to building bridges between research, policy, practice and lived experience, and strengthening connections between Guinea, the UK and beyond.
We are deeply grateful for the support of the โญ๏ธEmbassy of Guinea in the UK & NI (London), IOM - UN Migration Guinea, Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Guinea, ๐The Black Maternal Advocate Ltd๐, representatives from academic institutions (namely King's College London and the University of Oxford ), advocates, policymakers, healthcare professionals, community leaders, and the many organisations who have expressed interest in collaborating with us. We are excited about the partnerships already taking shape.
We are delighted that so many people have joined the โจDiaspora Mums Initiative's Networkโจ. This growing community reflects a shared commitment to advancing maternal and mental health through collaboration, knowledge exchange and collective action.
If you would like to join the network or explore opportunities to collaborate, please connect with us via LinkedIn or email โจ[email protected].
We welcome researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, organisations, advocates and individuals with lived experience who want to contribute to this important conversation and help shape the future of the initiative.
We are also pleased to announce that the ๐๐ข๐๐ฌ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐๐๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ ๐๐๐๐ will be published soon, capturing key insights and opportunities emerging from this inaugural event.
The launch also marked the official welcome of our newest Canvas Bridge Advisory Board member, โญ๏ธMarian Knight MBE (from the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit, University of Oxford). We are honoured to have her join us and will share a dedicated introduction very soon.
Thank you all for believing in this vision.
This is only the beginning.
Together, we are building bridges. Together, we can create lasting change.
