Football is safest and most enjoyable when it is well organised and delivered within a recognised framework.

Affiliated clubs are reminded that they should not take part in non-affiliated competitions. Staying within affiliated football helps protect players, volunteers, families, and clubs by ensuring that recognised rules, standards, and support are in place. Participation in non-sanctioned competitions may also affect a club’s insurance cover and affiliation status.

Affiliated football provides clear rules, safeguarding expectations, discipline processes, referee support, and reporting routes if concerns arise. These protections may not be available, or applied consistently, outside the affiliated game. Taking a few moments to check that an activity is properly affiliated helps keep football safe, fair, and enjoyable for everyone.
