Found this in my archives and had to share it. Get ready for it 🙌

This was the day I found out I was being made redundant, 2 months after returning from maternity leave, after 4.5 years with the company. What started as “at risk of redundancy” turned into a 6 week process of meetings, proposals, and so much uncertainty. Deep down I think I always knew what the outcome would be. They still put me through every single step.

The timing of it all was the worst. I was run down, unwell, and on my period that same week, the worst one I’d had in a while, (definitely stress related). So emotional & so sensitive, on top of everything else I was carrying. As women we already go through so much s**t, and then add hormones and a period on top of the worst news of your career, it was tough.

Fast forward to now, 3+ months into running Pilates by Riya full time, and it’s been the best decision that was ever made for me. Some days it still stings, if I’m honest. I took the whole process really personally, why me, why not someone else, was it because I took a longer maternity leave? All those questions, all those what ifs. I still have some of them if I sit with it too long. But slowly, I’m letting them go, because I’m in such a better place now.

Your perspective changes once you have a kid. Before Ishaan, I probably would have just moved on. This time there was so much more at stake, months spent settling him into nursery, building a routine, figuring out how to balance work and being his mum. So having this news land on top of all that hit so differently.

And through every single one of those meetings, my husband was there. Not to hold my hand, not to tell me what to do, just there. For my comfort & my support. Letting me know I wasn’t doing this alone, even when the decision was mine to make❤️

So, to any mum going back after maternity leave and feeling nervous, trust the process, trust your people. However it unfolds, it’ll tell a good story eventually.

So many of you come back from holiday and say the same thing, I feel like crap, I’m bloated, I ate badly, I worked so hard to look good for this trip and then didn’t move the whole time I was away. And then you spend the week after beating yourself up over it, only to do the exact same thing on the next trip, and trust me I’ve been there!

So why not actually take something with you that helps you feel good while you’re away, less bloated, more like yourself, doing movement that actually feels enjoyable instead of like a punishment. If you need a program that travels WITH you, this is it.

Pilates by Riya Travel Series, coming soon. We go live Monday 6th July ✈️🌍🙌

Corporate me on holiday used to be a nightmare; for me, mostly.

Slack open. Emails refreshed. That low-level anxiety hum of not knowing what was happening without me, of dreading the inbox I’d come back to. I was constantly working on it, the not switching off thing, and I never quite cracked it.

Fast forward to this week in Kalkan, and I’m still on my phone, still responding to members, still planning content, continuing with 1:1’s & taking zoom call, still reaching out to people I want to work with and I feel completely fine about it. More than fine, actually.

Because it’s different when it’s yours.

One of my directors used to say consistency builds trust, and it’s the truest thing. As a small business with no team behind me, going dark for two weeks isn’t really an option not if I want the PBR community to feel held and looked after. So I find the pockets. Early mornings before the day starts, nap time, after Ishaan’s down for the night. And honestly, a change of scene does something to your brain. I’ve come up with more ideas this week than I have in months.

I’m not saying this is the right approach for everyone. Some people need to fully switch off, and that’s completely valid. But for me, right now, this is it. I’m present with my family, I’m present in my business, and for the first time on a holiday, I don’t feel torn between the two.

Corporate me could never. But she got me here, so I’ll give her that. 🤍
