You lost your job... now what?

If you never liked where you were working, then redundancy can be a relief.

Otherwise, it can be super stressful and bring up all kinds of difficult emotions.

"Why me?"
"What am I going to do?"
"What's next?"

Like any breakup (work or personal)...

You want to get back into the scene as quickly as possible...

But also give yourself a second to breathe, take care of yourself, and get your confidence back.

Therapy can help get you back on your feet again... and go after what you really want.

I took up swimming again at the beginning of last year... with the goal of improving my front crawl.

I did that, which felt pretty good... but I wasn't expecting the added mental health benefits!

Which is why it's great to see an article in the latest David Lloyd Clubs rag promoting exactly that...

"Flow State: How swimming boosts your mental health."

They list a few reasons why...

For me it was a combination of all of them...

The buoyancy of the water allows me to let go and relax into the exercise... promoting a sense of wellbeing.

The immersion and rhythmic breathing provides a form of moving meditation... which helps quiet the mind.

And showing up consistently means there's a social and community aspect... which buffers against loneliness and stress.

Have you experienced the mental health benefits of swimming?

Jamie Laing was a keynote at the latest conference for small business owners in Newcastle.

During his interview with Suman Randhawa - Sales & Messaging Consultant one of the first things he said was "most business owners should have therapy".

I was surprised to hear him say that, but was even more surprised by his reasons why...

For him, being an entrepreneur means you need the self-awareness to know what you're good at and what you're bad at...

So that you can keep the play in your business (and not be so adult about it)... and take risks without fear.

I love this positive message around how therapy can help...

Rather than only focusing on the stress of being a business owner and what that can trigger (e.g. feeling overwhelmed).

The dark side of AI - Exploitation of humans and nature | DW Documentary 25/06/2026

Did you know that millions of low-wage data workers are needed to train AI?

I thought AI magically figured things out on its own!

Turns out it needs human beings to tell it what it's looking at.

Unfortunately, for many this means looking at horrific images all day long...

Leaving them needing therapy for mental and emotional problems.

Here's a link to the DW documentary 'The dark side of AI - Exploitation of humans and nature':

Have you ever felt like you're living a lie?

Pretending to be something you're not?

Maybe doing some job you hate?

It's actually pretty common to feel that way...

Most of us got conditioned by our society to think, feel and act a certain way.

The good news is... you have more control over how your life goes than you think.

Therapy is an amazing way to set yourself free from past conditioning... so you can feel like yourself again.

Break the chains, and go after what you really want!

The big dream of automating boring tasks was to free up energy for creative pursuits... now we're outsourcing our creativity to AI... what's left for us to do?

It's mental health awareness week this week (11-17 May)... so if you're a founder it's a good time to check in with yourself to see how you're doing.

Entrepreneurship is exciting... but also means you're 5x more likely to have anxiety than the general population.

The good news?

You can do something about it!

The first step is to recognise that it's happening... because you can't change what you can't see.

I've been at the intersection of therapy and entrepreneurship for 20 years.

What I've noticed with myself and my clients is that fear, anxiety and scarcity can motivate a certain amount of success... but it's not sustainable!

This led me to search for a better way to take care of myself, grow my practice... and give my clients the best chance for success.

And voila, The Calm Founder Framework™️ was born.

It's a 3 stage process to reduce what I call "anxiety-driven leadership".

âś… Stage 1 is Recognise "You can't change what you can't see"
âś… Stage 2 is Regulate "Calm is a skill not a personality trait"
âś… Stage 3 is Lead "Lead the business, not the other way around"

What makes this approach unique is that the focus is đź’Ż% on YOU... not learning another business strategy.

The underlying philosophy is to make sure you prioritise yourself first...

Then you'll be in the best possible position to lead successfully.

Wouldn't it be great to grow your business... without sacrificing your health, relationships or peace?

This is what drives me every day. 🚀

A reactive business with constant “quick questions” is like a house where the kids are yelling “Mom!!” every 3 minutes.

If you drop what you’re doing every time they call... you’ve unintentionally trained the whole house how to act to feel safe.

That’s what anxiety-driven leadership does in a service business. Your over-responsiveness becomes the regulation strategy for everyone else.

Use this practical 7-day audit if you've got a reactive business.

It only takes a couple of minutes a day, and you'll be amazed at the clarity you get from doing it.

Here's how...

Track one reactive moment per day using the 6 steps below:

1. Trigger: what happened (tone, uncertainty, mistake, waiting, feeling judged)
2. Physical signature: where anxiety hit first (e.g. chest, jaw, throat, stomach)
3. Story underneath: what you believed would happen if you didn’t stay on top of it
4. Leadership behaviour: withdraw, speed up, micromanage, overthink, people-please
5. Business cost: decision delayed, conversation avoided, boundary softened, team dependence reinforced
6. Pattern name: give it a label you’ll recognise next time (“The Fixer,” “The Avoider,” “The Sprinter,” “The Pleaser”)

Do this for 7 days and you’ll stop treating reactivity like a personality flaw.

You’ll see it as a predictable sequence you can change.
