Most fans may not know it, but The NeverEnding Story is technically a German film. It was shot mostly in Germany and was directed by famed German director, Wolfgang Petersen. Petersen's biggest film prior to this one was Das Boot, which previously took the title of the most expensive film in German history.

Never one to not outdo himself, Petersen's budget for The NeverEnding Story greatly surpassed that of Das Boot, making it significantly expensive for the time.

When all was said and done, the production ended up costing $27 million.

That may not seem like a lot these days, but in 1984 dollars, that would equate to $65 million. Unlike Hollywood, the German film industry spent much less than that on most of their films in the '80s.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 (𝟭𝟵𝟴𝟳) 🎞 Behind the scenes.
Edgar Frog is a unique character, to say the least. Played by Corey Feldman, the comic book-loving teenager was a human encyclopedia of sorts when it came to vampires and other strange happenings around Santa Carla.

Looking at Edgar on screen, it might come as no surprise that Feldman took inspiration from some of the action stars of the day. Director Joel Schumacher reportedly told Corey Feldman to dive into the works of Sylvester Stallone and Chuck Norris. The teen star was meant to come up with a combination of famous action characters and put his own twist on it.

It seems like Schumacher was onto something with Edgar’s character, as the Frog brother has been a favorite Halloween costume in the years since.

The movie Came Out In The Summer, Not Halloween. It seems like the perfect time of year to release such a Halloween centric movie would be in the fall, right around Halloween, right? Believe it or not, Hocus Pocus was released July 16, 1993 - nowhere near Halloween.
In fact, the movie didn't do so well at its original release. Famous critic Roger Ebert only gave the movie one star, and described it as "attending a party you weren't invited to, and where you don't know anybody, and they're all in on a joke but won't explain it to you." Many cult classics don't wow audiences the first go around, and Hocus Pocus was one of them.
