Congratulations to Club Runner of the Month for July and club legend, Grant Conway.

Club coach Grant is one of ELR’s longest serving members and a life member. As well as participating in almost every club race, Grant does a huge amount to support and encourage other members.

He’s competed in five of the seven Elvis races this summer, making 99 Elvis races in total. He plans to celebrate his 100th Elvis race at Barking at the end of August.

For years, he coached every track session, and continues to plan the track programme and lead frequent sessions.

Grant particularly loves being part of a team. He joined teammates Richard Power-Guest and Peter Hatley to take part in the Sri Chinmoy Battersea Relays 3 x 1 mile this month a few days after the Essex 5 mile championship in Colchester. He was part of the winning ultra team in the Sikhs in the City Summer Samosas Relay in June. He has also taken part in all three of the Orion Forest Five series races this summer.

Grant rarely misses a cross country race in the winter and is always keen on the Essex Way Relay every September.

As a coach, Grant has helped countless club members create training plans to reach their goals and improve their technique. He also leads a team running an elite drinks station at the London Marathon every year.

After 18 years of giving his heart and soul to the club, it’s impossible to imagine ELR without Grant.

Well done to all our runners this weekend either running the half marathons or 5Ks including the Essex championships and the popular Saturday parkruns. Congratulations to Ian Mackie claiming🥇M70 at the 5K Essex Championships.

A huge thank you to Orion Harriers for hosting another fantastic race. The marshals were brilliant, the support around the course was greatly appreciated, and, as always, the event was superbly organised. You even delivered perfect “running in the forest” weather conditions, making for a wonderful morning. Thank you from East London Runners

Harold Wood Running Club thank you for hosting another fantastic race. You always seem to bring out the best weather to round off the ELVIS evening race series! East London Runners really appreciated the support around the course and the treats at the end.

This weekend ELR were inspired by the Diamond League with two ELR running the Mile race in Stratford. We had some that were attracted to the authentic Italy 5k run at Victoria Park. Those braving a few more miles took on the Battersea Park Half Marathon.
As usual many of us enjoyed running and volunteering at the local and tourist Parkruns.
Sunday runners opted for the 5-milers, running the Greenwich Peninsula and Colchester Harriers Essex Championships with medals for 3rd female V55 and 1st medal male V70. Congratulations and well done everyone

ELR are at it again on another scorching day. The heat doesn’t stop them running a mud mission,running or volunteering on the streets of London. Well done to you all this weekend 🥵💪👏
