Customer: Can you check my bike over as I almost had an accident as the brakes didn't work?
Us: Sure.
Our mechanic: What brakes!!!!! These pads are completely finished bare metal on metal.
Please remember to check your brake pads!
If in doubt pop in and we'll check them for free.

Customer said they were hearing scratching coming from the rear of the bike. Problem solved completely worn brake pads.
