🥋 Our Syllabus — Built to Grow With Your Child
At Satori Jujitsu, our teaching and grading syllabus isn’t something we simply picked up and put in place. It has been developed, refined and evolved over the last 10 years, based on the children we teach, their development and what we know works.
We believe a syllabus should grow with the student — not hold them back.
As a child moves through our age groups, the syllabus develops with them. The expectations, teaching methods and techniques change to suit their age and stage of development, creating clear stepping stones along the way. 🪜
We also recognise that children develop at different rates. What is appropriate for a 5-year-old isn’t necessarily appropriate for a 10-year-old or a teenager, so our system takes their age and development into account.
🔴 Why our Beginners Red Belt?
One of the things we introduced was our Beginners Red Belt.
This gives newer students the opportunity to secure the fundamental basics in a manageable way before moving on. We don’t want children rushing through techniques just to get to the next belt. We want them to understand the foundations, build confidence and develop skills they can build upon.
Every belt takes a minimum of 9 months to complete, and each belt has three important stages:
1️⃣ LEARN
First, the student learns the technique. They become familiar with the movement, the terminology and the basic principles behind it.
2️⃣ DEVELOP
They then spend time developing that technique — improving their movement, making adjustments, becoming more efficient and learning how to make the technique better.
3️⃣ UNDERSTAND
Finally, they reach the stage where they have a much deeper understanding of what they have learned — how the technique should be performed, why it works and how to apply it correctly.
This means we aren’t simply ticking techniques off a list. We are giving children the time to actually learn them.
And the evidence is in the growth of our classes and the progression we see year after year.
We’ve watched children start with us as complete beginners and organically progress through the system, developing their skills, confidence and understanding as they grow.
And, quite simply, the proof is in the pudding! 🥋
When you see our students reach the higher belt colours and begin to truly master the skills they have been working on for years, you can see the value of giving them the time, repetition and foundations to develop properly.
For us, grading isn’t just about getting the next belt.
It’s about creation and consistency — creating good habits, consistently practising the basics, developing discipline, understanding progression and learning that hard work pays off.
Most importantly, we want children to see their own progression. To look back and realise how far they have come and understand that every belt represents time, effort, commitment and learning.
Our syllabus has evolved because our students have evolved.
After 10 years, we’re still learning, adapting and improving it so that it continues to grow with the child and give every student the best possible opportunity to develop through Jujitsu — both on and off the mat. ❤️
Small steps. Strong foundations. Learn it. Develop it. Understand it. Master it.
🥋 10 years of developing a system that grows with the child.

🙏 A HUGE THANK YOU TO GLAIS HOUSE 🙏
We want to give a very special thank you to Glais House for the incredible support they continue to show our events and, most importantly, the young athletes who attend them.
Their support helps us provide the kind of competition opportunities that are so important for development — giving athletes the chance to gain experience, build confidence, test themselves and continue progressing through the Great Britain pathway.
These events play a key role in athlete development and are also an important part of the wider selection process, which makes regular competition opportunities absolutely vital for the next generation.
Glais House have consistently backed what we are trying to build, and their support of our events, our winner rashguards and the youth development pathway genuinely makes a difference.
We are extremely grateful to have a business that understands the value of supporting young athletes and helping create more opportunities for them to progress.
Thank you, Glais House. Your support means a great deal to us and to the athletes who benefit from these events. 🥋🇬🇧

🥈🥉 MAKING THE PODIUM — AND KEEPING MOVING FORWARD 🥉🥈
Not every competition ends with standing on the top step.
Sometimes you are unlucky.
Sometimes a decision doesn’t go your way.
Sometimes you come up against a better opponent on the day.
But none of that takes away from the effort, commitment and development that got you onto the mat in the first place.
These athletes gave everything.
They trained hard, they competed hard and they represented Satori with the attitude we expect from every member of the team.
For us, competition is never just about the medal.
It is a progress marker.
It shows us what is working, what has improved and where we need to spend more time when we get back into the dojo.
That is how development works.
You compete.
You assess.
You learn.
You improve.
Then you go again.
We don’t lose — we learn.
Anything else is counterproductive.
Dwelling too much on a result can stop an athlete seeing all the progress that came before it and all the opportunity that comes after it.
A silver or bronze medal does not mean failure.
It means you were on the podium at a British Championship.
It means you put yourself out there.
It means you tested your game under pressure.
And it means you now have even more information to take back into training.
Most of these athletes already know what it feels like to stand on the top step.
And I am positive they will stand there again.
That is because of the type of athletes they are.
Dedicated.
Committed.
Willing to listen.
Willing to work.
And most importantly, willing to compete again regardless of the result.
Competition can be challenging, especially when athletes put so much into their preparation.
But when you view competition for what it really is — part of the development process — it becomes one of the most valuable tools we have.
Celebrate the good.
Be honest about the areas that need work.
Then get back into the dojo and improve them.
That is exactly what these athletes will do.
🥈 Emma Carter
🥈 Maia Beynon
🥈 Theo Morgan
🥉 Adam Evans
🥉 Theo Kelly
Well done to every one of you.
You gave your best, you made the podium and you represented the team brilliantly.
Now we learn, develop and move forward together.
The next competition starts in the dojo. 🐉

🥇🥇 BRITISH CHAMPION — CRUZ VALENTINO ELSWORTH 🥇
Cruz has been part of Satori since he was just 4 years old, and in all that time one thing has never changed — he has always been an absolute pleasure to coach and have around the club.
Whatever the session, whatever the competition, whatever the challenge, Cruz gives 100%.
Always has.
His technique, confidence and understanding of Fighting Jujitsu have developed year after year, and this season we have really started to see the rewards of all that hard work.
Cruz is now a Welsh Champion, British Champion across multiple age and weight categories, and this year became Europa Cup Champion.
And he has firmly become one of the athletes to watch.
What makes Cruz so exciting is that he doesn’t just rely on natural talent.
He watches.
He listens.
He studies the athletes around him.
He learns from his peers, takes ideas from different styles and has gradually built a game that is becoming very much his own.
That development is a direct reflection of his attitude and commitment.
He is one to watch.
And increasingly, one to fear.
There is absolutely a future World Champion in the making here.
Cruz has already shown that he can move through age groups, weight categories and different levels of competition while continuing to improve and adapt.
And I have no doubt that he will continue to do exactly that.
Sometimes people over-exaggerate the ability of young athletes.
With Cruz, I genuinely struggle to find words big enough to describe how talented he is.
But perhaps what makes him even more impressive is the person behind the ability.
He is humble.
He is kind.
He is respectful.
And despite everything he is achieving, he remains exactly the same Cruz we have known since he first walked through the doors at 4 years old.
There will be challenges ahead.
There always are.
But one thing I know about Cruz is that he won’t just try his best.
He will always do his best.
And I cannot wait to see where that takes him.
Keep doing exactly what you are doing, Cruz.
The future is very, very bright.
🌟🥇🐉🇬🇧

Results Day ❤️
To all our students picking up their results today — we are incredibly proud of you. ❤️
If today brings you the results you were hoping and working so hard for, then huge congratulations! Take a moment to celebrate yourself, because you’ve earned it. 🎉
But remember this…
One set of results does not define you, your future, your intelligence or your potential.
Everyone’s path is different. For some, academic grades will open the doors they want to walk through. For others, their strengths will shine through practical work, creativity, determination, sport, business, people skills or simply being brilliant at something that can’t be measured on a piece of paper.
There is no one-size-fits-all route to success.
Some people know exactly where they’re going at 16 or 18. Others take a few more twists, turns and wrong roads before they find their thing. And that’s OK.
What matters is that you keep learning, keep growing, keep showing up and never allow one moment, one result or one number to convince you that you aren’t capable of great things.
We’ve watched so many of you grow in confidence, overcome challenges, learn from setbacks and push yourselves beyond what you thought you could do — and those qualities will take you a long way in life.
So whether today is a day of celebration, disappointment, relief, excitement or uncertainty…
Keep going. Your story is only just beginning. ❤️
Be proud of how far you’ve come.
Believe in where you’re going.
And remember — your path is yours, and it doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.
Congratulations to every single one of you. 🥰👏❤️
