Last week, Caroline and Viv visited just a handful of the many Crown Green Bowling Clubs across Conwy, sharing the benefits of being part of Sport Conwy and learning more about the fantastic work taking place within each club.

It was wonderful to meet so many passionate members and see firsthand their dedication to the sport, their commitment to welcoming new players, and their enthusiasm for developing junior members. We also enjoyed hearing about the rich history of the clubs, with each clubhouse and green having its own unique story and sense of pride, (not to mention locations and views!).

Sport Conwy is the voluntary forum for sports organisations across Conwy, bringing together clubs from the voluntary, private, and public sectors.

For just £30 per year, affiliated members can access funding opportunities, discounted training, promotional support through our website, directory, social media and Stopwatch publication, plus networking and development opportunities.

Members also benefit from support to create inclusive sporting activities and receive regular updates on grants and events. Join Sport Conwy and help strengthen sport and active communities across the county.

**CLUB SPOTLIGHT**

Clwb Hoci Eirias Hockey Club is the largest hockey club in North Wales and a welcoming, family-friendly club with members aged 4 to 75. Formed through the merger of Colwyn Bay and Llandudno Hockey Clubs, the club has grown from strength to strength over the past eight years.

The club currently has four men's teams and three women's teams, with both 1st teams competing at the highest division of any hockey club in North Wales. The 2025/26 season saw the Women's 1st, Women's 2nd and Men's 2nd teams all finish as their respective league runners-up, earning promotion for both women's teams. The Women's 1st and Men's 2nd teams also reached the quarter-finals of the Hoci Cymru Cup.

At junior level, the U12 Girls, U18 Boys and U18 Girls all enjoyed national success. The U12 Girls finished 4th in Wales, the U18 Boys were Welsh runners-up, and the U18 Girls secured 3rd place in Wales. The U18 Boys and Girls were jointly named Junior Sports Team of the Year at the Conwy Sports Awards for their fantastic achievements.

The club is also proud of its representative players and officials. Effi Jones and Finn Bullock have represented Wales U18s, while Masters players Janelle Dexter-Lowe, Jude Pyves, Cath Beattie, Neil Baldwin, and umpire Matt Wilkinson have been selected for international competition this summer.

With strong representation at regional and national levels, Clwb Hoci Eirias Hockey Club continues to thrive and is keen to attract more teenage players and senior women to the sport. Anyone interested in joining can contact the club via social media or email [email protected].

CLUB SPOTLIGHT - Llandudno Karate

Llandudno Karate Club is one of North Wales’ largest and most successful martial arts clubs, providing karate classes for children and adults of all abilities at Hajime Hiro Dojo in Llandudno. The club promotes confidence, discipline, fitness, and respect while supporting athletes from beginner level through to international competition.

The club has enjoyed outstanding success in recent years, producing Welsh and British Champions, European medallists, and athletes representing Wales at European, World, and Commonwealth events. Recent highlights include multiple Welsh Championship titles, Ioan Beards’ Gold medal at the WKF Para Karate Cup in Venice, and Wales representatives Manny Major and James Beards competing at the European Championships, as well as the continued growth of the clubs performance programme through Sh*to Ryu Karate Wales.

Alongside its competitive achievements, the club remains committed to community participation, offering programmes for all ages, including Dojo Dragons, junior and senior classes, and athlete development pathways. Llandudno Karate continues to make a positive impact within the Conwy community, developing athletes, volunteers, coaches, and young leaders both on and off the tatami.
