You weren’t born knowing how to quit when things get hard.
When you were learning to walk as a child and you fell over, you didn’t tell yourself you couldn’t do it.
You just kept trying until you cracked it.
But somewhere along the line you learned how to give up.
And that got reinforced by slogans like “go big or go home.”
Sometimes you just need reminding that quitting isn’t your only option.
The all or nothing mentality rarely serves anyone well.
The sooner you can switch your mindset to all or something, the easier it will be to keep going, even when it’s tough!
I rowed a minute under my previous time today.
But the other option was not to do it at all.
I know I don’t need to tell you which was better!

Brain fog is practically a superpower round here! 😵‍💫

Are you a woman in your 50s or above who wants to start lifting weights but worries about struggling or looking stupid?
This is a totally valid emotion, particularly if you’ve either never done resistance training before or not for a long time.
You keep saying you’ll start doing something at home to get a bit stronger before you join a gym. But you don’t have a clue where to start.
I’ve got you!
Here are three exercises you can do at home for a few weeks that will give you confidence to take the next step and get yourself into a gym.
Week 1: Perform 10 repetitions of each exercise twice a week.
Week 2: Do the same thing but three times a week.
Week 3: Do the same but up it to three sets, three times a week.
Then give me a call and we’ll get you into the gym, adding some weight to those movements! 💪

There’s nothing wrong with a Twix now and again.
But the more you can opt for nutrient dense whole foods with a lower calorie load, the bigger volume of food you can eat.
And this makes it easier to adhere to that all important calorie deficit for weight loss.

Maybe there is a National Hamstrings Day, I don’t know.
But what I do know, is you don’t need a reason to work those bad boys, outside of the fact that it is very good for your strength, muscle growth, balance and healthspan to do so.
The exercises shown here are Romanian deadlifts and kickstand Romanian deadlifts, both staples of our programmes.
If you’re interested in bulletproofing your body as you age, in an environment created for women who hate conventional gyms, get in touch!

I went on holiday. I ate and drank loads. I came home and went back to my normal routine. No drama; no guilt - why should I feel guilty for making wonderful memories with my favourite people?
Relaxing your usual eating habits is, on occasion, part of life.
And truthfully the “damage” is generally nowhere near what you imagine it to be.
It only becomes a problem if you tell yourself you’ve blown everything and might as well carry on.
That’s like finding a nail in one tyre and slashing the other three.
Get home, get your washing done, get back to the gym and back to your normal routine asap.
Then start planning your next holiday!

You probably don’t burn anywhere near the calories you think during training.
And if you’re basing your calorie intake on this, it could be the reason why you’re not seeing the weight loss results you want.
Training is for shape, diet is for weight.

Lunges: love em or hate em, there’s no denying they have a place in helping you to stay strong through a great range of movement.
Here’s some tips on how to make them better.

Fear of looking stupid is the biggest barrier to personal growth.
Don’t let these distorted thoughts - that’s what they are - stop you from doing things that will make your life better.

If you’re an older woman like me, you’re probably starting to realise the massive health benefits of resistance training.
Stronger bones, improved brain function, less chance of falls, longer lifespan: it’s all compelling stuff.
But alongside that, it’s all okay to be a little bit driven by the need to look good too.
Knowing you can still rock a vest with confidence in your late 50s is pretty motivational.
We may be older, but we’re damned if we’re going to let ourselves blend into the background.
