There’s no such thing as a “toning” exercise.
Light weights and high reps don’t tone anything.
Cardio doesn’t either.
Toned is just two things happening at once.
You’ve got some muscle on your frame. And there’s little enough fat over it for that muscle to show.
So if you want that “toned” look…
Build and keep your muscle by lifting heavy enough and eating plenty of protein.
And lose the fat sitting over it with a calorie deficit.
Muscle isn’t just about looking toned though.
🔥 It keeps your metabolism up. More muscle means you burn more calories at rest, so you can eat more food and still lose fat.
🦴 It protects your bones. Lifting lowers your risk of osteoporosis and the fractures that come with it later in life.
💪 It keeps you strong for real life. Carrying the shopping, lifting the kids and getting up off the floor all get easier.
📉 It helps you keep the weight off once you’ve lost it.
