🏆 2015s Michael Morrison Tournament ⚽️

Yesterday we took part in the Michael Morrison Tournament, facing some of the top teams in Belfast. We knew we had a tough group and were beaten by Linfield and Ballyclare, but the girls bounced back brilliantly in our final group game against St Mary’s. Amy Polorecka scored a fantastic goal before Katie added a second to secure the win and send us into the Shield final.

In the final we faced Lisburn Rangers and fell behind early, but the girls showed great character to fight back. Amy Pelan produced a superb long-range finish to level the game before going one better and scoring the winner! 🏆

The girls get their hands on some silverware and, not long afterwards, their hands on some McDonald’s as a well-earned reward! 🍔 Well done girls — great battling and a fantastic way to finish the tournament 👏⚽️

🏆 Hillsborough Girls 15/16 Tournament ⚽️

Today we hosted our first ever girls tournament at Laurelhill, and despite a bit of rain, it was a fantastic day of football. The games were played in a brilliant spirit throughout, with some really good football on display and plenty of excitement across all four competitions.

Congratulations to our winners: Crusaders, who lifted the Champions League 🏆; Crusaders 2016, who beat Tullycarnet to win the Premier League; Downshire, who defeated Lisburn Rangers 2016 in the Championship; and Hillsborough Girls, who beat Cregagh to take the FA Cup! 🏆👏

A huge thank you to Eddie and Eric for refereeing, and to all the players, coaches, parents and helpers who helped make the day such a success. We hope everyone enjoyed it and we’d love to welcome you all back again! 🔴⚫️⚽️

⚽ 2017s Friendly vs Lisburn Rangers

Great turnout on Fri night! Nervous energy quickly turned into brilliant teamwork, brave tackles, and fantastic determination from all the girls in their first pre-season match.

⭐ Player of the Match went to Aria! An absolute belter of a first game for Hillsborough Girls, non-stop runs, great attempts and a coolly finished goal to top it off!

❤️🖤 2015s finish strong at Foyle Cup 🖤❤️

The final day at the Foyle Cup brought two more games to round off a fantastic week together.

First up were Strathroy Harps, who raced into a 2-0 lead. Playing with the wind in the second half, the girls showed great character to fight back, with goals from Alaia and Elsie bringing us level. Unfortunately, a late penalty settled the game in Strathroy’s favour.

Our final match was against Strabane Athletic Colts, and the girls finished the tournament in style. Elsie scored another two goals to take her tally to 10 for the tournament – a fantastic achievement. Sophie added another with a well-taken finish on her right foot, while Scarlett was outstanding in midfield and unlucky not to score. At the other end, Mia produced an excellent save to preserve a clean sheet and help secure the win.

As we head home, we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported the girls throughout the week. While the football didn’t always go exactly to plan, the trip was a huge success. The girls represented the club brilliantly, made lifelong memories together, and grew as both players and teammates. 🔴⚫️⚽️

❤️🖤 2015s reach last 16 in Foyle Cup 🖤❤️

Today we reached the Last 16 of the Foyle Cup and faced a very strong group winning Phoenix Athletic side. The girls were ready for the challenge and produced one of their best performances of the tournament.

We took the lead in the first half when Lucy delivered an excellent corner, Elsie lifted the ball back into the danger area, and Alaia was there to finish. The whole team gave absolutely everything, but Phoenix showed their quality and drew level before the game became a real end-to-end contest. There were chances for both sides, and Mia produced an outstanding low save to keep us in it. Sadly, a late deflected strike proved to be the winner for Phoenix.

With little time to recover emotionally, we went straight into our next game against St Mary’s. The girls battled hard but couldn’t quite match the intensity of the previous game, and the match finished 4-1, with Elsie converting a late penalty.

We couldn’t be prouder of this group. Reaching the knockout stages and competing so well against some outstanding teams is a real achievement. Tomorrow is our final day of the tournament, and we’ll be looking to finish on a high, playing for each other and enjoying every minute together. 🔴⚫️⚽️

❤️ 2015s day 3 Foyle Cup 🖤

Day 3 of the Foyle Cup brought our final group game against Kilmecrennan Celtic, knowing that only a win would give us a chance of reaching the Last 16. After a fun evening at Barry’s, the girls arrived in great spirits and walked onto the pitch full of determination.

The first half was a tight, evenly contested affair. Eimear, Scarlett, and Lucy were outstanding at the back, keeping the opposition attack under control, while the wide pitch made it difficult for us to create many clear-cut chances. We had a few promising moments but couldn’t quite find the breakthrough before half-time.

After a quick refuel with some oranges, the girls came out for the second half with the same determination. The decisive moment arrived when Katie picked out Alaia with a clever forward pass. Alaia’s shot rebounded into the path of Aimee, whose effort took a deflection and fell perfectly for Elsie to calmly finish from close range. The girls then showed great concentration and resilience to see out the victory and book our place in the Last 16, where we’ll face Phoenix tomorrow morning.

To celebrate, the team enjoyed a well-earned dinner together before burning off the last bit of energy at a local playground. Onto the knockout stages! 🔴⚫️⚽️

❤️ 2015s day 2 of the Foyle Cup 🖤

After a fun evening of bowling and amusements, we headed into Day 2 of the Foyle Cup full of confidence and ready for two more tough games.

Our first match was against Sion Swifts Tornadoes, who started strongly and it was clear we had to battle to stay in the game. Our girls held their own for the first 10 mins but the Sion striker reacted quickest to a save by Mia to open the scoring, and another was added from a free kick. By the second half they’d opened up a 3-0 lead. To the girls’ credit, they kept going until the final whistle and finished strongly, being rewarded with a penalty late on, which Elsie confidently converted to give us something to build on.

With another game immediately afterwards, there was little time to dwell on the result as we faced Augher Stars. We fell behind early, but responded brilliantly. Sophie showed some superb footwork down the left before smashing an unstoppable finish into the top corner to level the scores. More excellent link-up play followed as Sophie slipped Elsie through to make it 2-1, and we finished the first half playing some really good football with Alaia driving runs through the middle.

As the game wore on, it became end to end with chances at both ends. Eimear and Elsie picked up knocks and by now the travel and late nights were starting to show. Augher drew level before finding a late winner, but there were plenty of positives to take from the performance. The girls played some excellent football in spells.

The fun continued this evening with a trip to the funfair at portrush! Onto Day 3 and our final group game 🔴⚫️⚽️

❤️ 2015s Day 1 at the Foyle Cup 🖤

Last night we all watched the World Cup final, and today we travelled early to take part in the parade through the city before spending a few hours taking in the atmosphere.

Later in the day we arrived for our first game against Foyle Girls. The team met for a briefing beforehand, and at kick-off a few nerves were visible. However, within a few minutes Elsie was through one-on-one with the keeper, calmly took the ball around her and slotted home for an early lead. We conceded before half-time after some chaos in our box where we just couldn’t clear our lines.

In the second half we pushed on, and Alaia drove us forward to put us back in front. Elsie then scored from close range after a Sophie corner, before completing her hat-trick with a brilliant volley. The defence Katie, Scarlett and Eimear were excellent throughout, and the midfield worked tirelessly with Aimee, Lucy and Aria relentless stopping the opposition from threatening and then moving the ball forward. Lucy took a bad knock and needed to come off, but the girls kept going and played their roles very well. We are very happy with the girls’ performance today and there is more to come this week. A great start to the tournament!
