Orange vs orange juice: what’s the difference?

Orange juice is the most popular fruit juice in the world, and both whole oranges and orange juice can be good sources of vitamin C, folate, potassium and beneficial plant compounds.

But they’re not quite the same.

When an orange is turned into juice, most of the fibre is removed. Processing can also reduce some of the beneficial plant compounds. With less fibre and the fruit structure broken down, the sugars are more readily available, and juice is also less filling than eating the whole fruit.

Freshly squeezed juice is the least processed option, while orange-flavoured drinks are a very different story.

So, if you have the choice, eat the orange 🍊

But a glass of orange juice is still a perfectly reasonable way to get some of the benefits of fruit — just keep it around 150 ml a day.

Whole fruit wins, but juice isn’t bad either.

Good nutrition isn’t about perfection. It’s about feeling confident with food, nourishing your body and still enjoying the foods you love.

At your pace, in a way that fits your goals and your life.

Another spine movement we often don’t give enough love to: side bending.

Our spine is not only bending forwards and backwards, but it can also move sideways. And just like extension, lateral flexion is something worth maintaining if we want a capable and adaptable body. It can also feel pretty damn good when your back is feeling tight.

You don’t have to be naturally flexible or particularly good at it. Your body adapts to what you regularly ask it to do. And as an added bonus, your obliques get some work too.

You might be surprised how far you can come when you give your body the opportunity to move, adapt and get stronger.

And remember: you have two sides. So don’t fall in love with just one. 😉

Back extension is probably not the movement most of us naturally gravitate towards. Flexion? We do that all day long. Curling forward, sitting, bending, looking down…

But extending your spine is just as much a part of having a capable, adaptable body.

And that brings me to Chicken Wings (copyright )

I’ve been working on these regularly, and it never ceases to amaze me what consistency can do.

The first time I tried to look at the wall behind me, I just laughed and shook my head. No chance.

Now I have a new target: the floor behind me.

No magic. No quick fix. Just consistent practice, gradually increasing range and teaching my body to move where it once didn’t want to go.

Don’t avoid the movement you’re uncomfortable with. Work on it. Start where you are. Be consistent. Give your body time to adapt.

Because sometimes the thing you think you can’t do is simply the thing you haven’t practised enough yet. 💪🏼🐓
