For most of us, the FIFA World Cup dream is well and truly shattered (at least until the next World Cup sweepstake comes around). But for two lucky people, we’ve finally reached the moment of truth.

First off, a moment of silence for Steve D (🇫🇷) and Di (🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿). Steve (“I would enter, but I’m not a betting man...I’ll take 3”) D, you flew so close to the sun, only to have your sweepstake wings melt at the penultimate hurdle. Di, commiserations to you. You carried the hopes of the nation, only to remind us that it really is the hope that kills you. Football is, once again, not coming home.

Welcome back to the loser’s bench, you two. We saved you a seat.

Now, onto the main event. It all comes down to this: Steve K (🇪🇸) vs. Mandy (🇦🇷).

Yes, that’s Steve K, whose arm had to be twisted to near-dislocation point to splash out on just one entry, versus Mandy, the sweepstake glutton, who dived in with the maximum three entries without even batting an eyelid and still asked for more.

All remaining pretences of 'friendly club banter' are now completely dead and buried. This is a ruthless, intercontinental showdown for cold, hard cash. One of you is about to walk away with the ultimate winner's pot 🥇, while the other gets the runner-up prize 🥈—which, let's be brutally honest, is still infuriatingly better than the absolute zilch the rest of us are walking away with.

To the rest of the club: let’s all start practising our supportive fake smiles for whichever one of these two turns up at next Monday’s session, desperately trying to mask their gloating smugness with a look of casual nonchalance. 🍻💰🏆

Right, folks. We’ve hit the FIFA World Cup semi-finals, which means the knives are officially out.

We started this sweepstake claiming it was all about friendly club banter and celebrating the beautiful game. But reality is about to hit. Will we see national loyalties cast aside, and friendships tested in the ruthless pursuit of the winner's and runner-up pots? 💷💷

To our final four—Steve D (🇫🇷), Steve K (🇪🇸), Di (🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿), and Mandy (🇦🇷): Congratulations...for now. Two of you are about to experience the bitter sting of false hope before being unceremoniously dumped out like the rest of us!

We have a sneaky feeling that the majority will be rooting for Di to go through, but don’t take it personally.

To those of us who crashed out weeks ago: Thank you in advance for generously funding the ultimate winner’s and runner-up’s victory pints. Your financial sacrifice will not be forgotten by them (until they’re at the bar laughing at us losers) 🍻🥂⚽️🥇🥈

What a weekend of football! Forget the Azteca, the only place to be on Sunday was Cherry Willingham.

Three of our squads took to the pitch in the FA’s Walking Football Cup. While none of our teams will be advancing to the next round, ending the day in one piece (well, nearly) is a victory in itself.

Here’s a round-up of the day’s events.

Mixed 50s

First to kick off were the 50s. As one team dropped out, the 50s only faced 5 games instead of 6. But this was no bad thing, as with an impressive array of niggling injuries between them, they truly were the walking wounded, even before a ball was kicked.

Maybe that was the reason for their bold, avant-garde strategy: Why waste energy warming up when you need every ounce of it just to stand upright?

• Game 1 vs. Gainsborough (Lost 3-0):

It turns out warm-ups are actually quite useful. We conceded three early goals while our legs were still trying to remember the basic bio-mechanics of movement. Although we did get the ball in the back of the net through Neil, it was disallowed for not walking. So, let’s put this one down as our very public, highly competitive dynamic stretching session.

• Game 2 vs. Grantham (Won 1-0):

Muscles now properly awake, it was like someone put 50p in the meter as football brains were suddenly switched on. Better communication meant we looked more organised, and we were stronger defensively. A tight game was finally settled when Andy unleashed a real scorcher to secure the three points.

• Game 3 vs. Sleaford (Lost 3-0):

Two steps forward, one step back. We faced the current league title holders here, so we generously let them have the points (and they definitely didn't just outplay us). Expected result...moving swiftly on!

• Game 4 vs. Lincoln Utd (Won 2-1):

A nail-biter! The game was incredibly tight, but some great saves by Dave and solid defending kept us in the hunt when the score was 1-1, courtesy of Andy’s second goal of the tournament. Just as we thought we’d have to settle for the draw, cue Andy once again with another strike to sn**ch the win in the dying moments.

• Game 5 vs. Grimsby Town Corinthians (Drew 1-1):

Running entirely on fumes at this point, this was a battle. Corinthians took the lead, and late on, were threatening to overrun us. But with impeccable timing, Lincoln went down in agony, slapping the ground in dramatic fashion, just like the pros. Everyone thought he was making a big fuss about nothing (yeah, just like the pros!), but it was actually tactical brilliance, straight out of his UEFA B coaching playbook: it broke the run of play and gave us a much-needed oxygen break. Second wind secured, Andy struck with virtually the last kick of the game to steal a point.

Overall, the final tally wasn’t too shabby for a squad largely held together by kinesiology tape: 2 Wins, 1 Draw, 2 Losses. At least the walking wounded avoided becoming the walking dead. Still, the physios of Lincoln will be rubbing their hands with glee – kerching! 💷💷🤑

Women’s 50s

Lincoln’s ladies made their grand debut on the national stage in the women’s 50s category. A lack of entrants meant they had the pleasure of playing the same opponent, Stamford Strollers, over three consecutive games.

• Game 1 vs. Stamford (Lost 6-0):

First-game jitters were real. The tournament goals looked suspiciously large—borderline cavernous—and the more experienced Stamford team took full advantage by deploying a highly effective "just shoot from literally anywhere" tactic. Our ladies spent this game trying to find their competitive feet (and figuring out where the goalposts ended).

• Game 2 vs. Stamford (Lost 3-0):

Enter coach Ryan. Following a rousing, tactical team talk by Ryan, the ladies came out with new defensive resolve. The back line solidified, the gaps closed, and the scoreline halved. Progress!

• Game 3 vs. Stamford (Lost 2-0):

The steady improvement continued. The ladies fought hard, limited the damage even further, and showed spirit and true grit.

Final tally: 3 Losses (but an undeniable upward trajectory).

So, the ladies were out of the tournament, but definitely not down. They’ve come away with invaluable experience, which will stand them in good stead for the future. And watching the goals conceded drop from six to three to two proves this squad is learning fast.

Congratulations to Pauline, who was deservedly named Ryan’s player of the day 🏅👏

Mixed 60s

With a team pulling out of this category, the 60s only had to survive four games. They embraced the challenge with solid defending, a spectacular strike, and some great saves.

• Game 1 vs. Stamford (Won 1-0):

A dream start. Mark decided to skip the pleasantries and fired an absolute bullet of a shot past the keeper to secure a hard-fought and unexpected 1-0 victory. We were probably even more stunned than they were!

• Game 2 vs. Grimsby Corinthians (Lost 2-0):

A tough battle and a reality check. We went 1-0 down but threw the kitchen sink at them, trying to scrape a point. But it wasn’t to be, and as the game was drawing to a close, we got caught on the break and conceded a second. An unlucky end to a gritty performance.

• Game 3 vs. Grimsby Ancient Mariners (Drew 0-0):

A tense, end-to-end game where both sides threatened to break the deadlock. Our defence put up a brick wall, we battled for every ball, and we fully deserved to walk away with a point.

• Game 4 vs. Sleaford (Lost 1-0):

By this final match, the tank wasn't just empty; we were actively borrowing fumes from next week. It was a hard-fought slog, which needed all hands on deck to keep Sleaford at bay. One sneaky effort did eventually breach our defence, but we kept fighting till the end and were unlucky not to find an equaliser.

Final tally: 1 Win, 1 Draw, 2 Losses.

So, a solid showing from the 60s. Between holidays and injuries, putting out a competitive team is an achievement. So a win, a draw, and two narrow defeats, all while keeping hip replacements fully intact, shouldn’t be sniffed at.

A massive well done to everyone who played, managed, or came along to support. And a huge thank you to the referees and to Luke and Kirsty at Lincolnshire Football Association for organising the local heat and ensuring that it ran seamlessly despite teams dropping out at the last minute👏⚽

The air above Cherry Willingham is heavy with the unmistakable scent of Deep Heat, the hamstrings are nervously twitching, and the knee supports are at the ready. It can mean only one thing...The FA’s Walking Football Cup is back, and Lincoln Invictus is sending three teams into combat in the local qualifying round!
⚽🏆

The battlefield will be the Priory Pembroke Academy, Croft Lane, Cherry Willingham, LN3 4JP on Sunday, 5 July 2026.

We’re sending good vibes (and we might also need a physiotherapist) as our teams start (and perhaps also end) their 2026 Walking Football Cup journey:

• Our 50s team will play in the Mixed 50s category. Some familiar, formidable foes across 6 games (kick-off 9:30) stand between the 50s and a place in the Regional Finals in Derby. There can only be one winner! The 50s have the players, they’ve had the practice, and now it’s their time to shine. Their biggest tactical challenge? Remembering that 4-0 isn’t a good score if it relates to not walking offences!

• Starting at 10:15 am, Lincoln’s Ladies will be competing in the Women’s Over 50s category. So, step aside, world, because this is our ladies' first-ever national tournament! They aren’t going there for a leisurely Sunday stroll; they’re looking to grab the medals and progress to the next stage. We feel sorry for anyone brave enough to step in front of this train!

• Not surprisingly, the Mixed 60s category awaits our 60s team, and they kick off at 12:00. Bringing decades of footballing experience, pure wisdom, and a complete refusal to track back to defend, our 60s are raring to break through the pain barrier to achieve FA Cup glory. Those knee supports will be working overtime, taking the strain of 5 games in the space of an hour and a half.

Good luck to all our teams. Whatever the results, we know you’ll do the Club proud—but it would be nice if you could bring back some silverware, please 😁

Come and cheer them on (and if anyone has a bulk discount code for ice packs and ibuprofen, please drop it in the comments below)⚽🏥

If a picture is worth a thousand words, the photo for Lincoln’s Ladies’ Player of the Month Award for June is screaming all of them.

Congratulations to Julia, pictured here with assistant coach Ryan.

Julia did 100% of the work, yet Ryan is radiating 150% of the pride. Anyone would think that Ryan won the award, and Julia was just a fan who won a contest to stand next to him!

Well done, Julia! 👏👏⚽️🎖️

It’s official – Mike N is a LOSER!!!!

Yes, the worst-performing team at the end of the group stage (Iraq: 0 points, -11 goal difference) was skilfully picked by you, Mike... Oh, wait... it was a random draw!

That just proves what Winston Churchill once said: "Never in the history of World Cup Sweepstakes has anyone gained so much from doing so little."

OK, we've used a bit of journalistic licence with that, but rest assured, everyone—If Mike’s second pick, Sweden, wins or comes second, the matter will be referred to FIFA under the Lincoln Invictus World Cup Sweepstake Policy (which you won’t find on our website, because we just made it up).

But, seriously, Mike: Well done for doing absolutely nothing! Your prize of £15 will be with you shortly 💷🎉🥳⚽

In true tabloid style, we tracked Mike down for his reaction. Clearly underwhelmed (well, who wouldn't be?), he said: "Err.... thanks?! It's only reaffirming what I and everyone already knew. I promise to waste the winnings on something pointless - it seems the fitting thing to do."

(We're sure he didn't mean that, and he'll promptly hand it over to you, Mrs N).

Commiserations to Cheryl (Tunisia: 0 points, -10 goal difference)—you weren’t quite awful enough this time around, but you were very close!

Wednesdays – 7 pm Mixed
Fridays – 10 am Ladies only and Mixed

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO THE FORECAST FOR EXTREME HEAT

Lincoln Invictus' over-65s are getting ready to stretch their hammies—but let’s not overdo it!

It’s all in aid of a great cause, Parkinson’s UK.

The entry fee of £10 per player and any other money raised and donations will go directly to Parkinson’s UK, who can take cash or card, so no excuses!

There’ll also be a raffle, so please bring extra ready cash—some of you may need to check that the cash lingering in your mothballed wallet is still legal tender.

It’s all happening on the 3G at Lincoln City’s LNER Stadium. Park in the Playzone car park on Cross Street, due to the construction work currently underway at the ground.

Players will need to arrive by 9:00 am—kick-off will be at 9:30 am sharp. Approximate end time is 12:30 pm for trophies and glory.

Whether you’re playing or spectating, hopefully, the League One Trophy will be floating around in the morning for a Paparazzi moment. So, practice your best champion pose in front of the mirror before the day!

8 teams are playing in 2 groups of 4. The winners of each group will fight it out (in the friendliest fashion, of course) for the trophy.

A "5-touch rule" will apply, so you get to exercise your brain, too.

Bring your own snacks, or get your hit of cake and caffeine from the on-site café.

The Bottom Line: This festival is about raising awareness and funds for Parkinson’s UK, making new friends, and celebrating the joy of walking football. So, relax and enjoy!

Come and support, if you can.
