It's too hot to even think about dog training so here's a lovely post from Ashleigh of Tails & Scales Pet Care featuring local legend and all-round Good Boi, Denzel!
I wish he liked water so I could get a paddling pool to cool him off, but the thought of getting in water is horrifying to him as a Staffy land seal!
Hope you dog owners of Lincoln are managing somehow with the awful heat, too early walks and - just when you want to chill out - another one after 9pm - it is grim!

What could be better than one reactive Dachshund?🤪
Two! Meet Cooper and Rolo...
These two little lads have been making their mum's life hard! From frantic door rushing and explosive barking at the windows and fence, to noisy, reactive walks that have become stressful rather than enjoyable, life had become pretty overwhelming.
The good news? Dogs can learn new habits.
We're working on calm doorway manners, stopping barking on cue, and building engagement through play before heading out on walks. Giving these clever boys a job to do and clear boundaries is helping them make better choices every day.
Rolo, in particular, seems determined to prove what a very good boi he can be! 🐾❤️
Reactivity doesn't have to become your dog's identity. With the right guidance, consistency and training, walks can become enjoyable again—for both you and your dog.
📍 If you live in Lincoln or the surrounding area and your reactive Dachshund is driving you nuts, stop the guesswork.

This heatwave has been so hard on dogs and dog owners! I feel for all of us who've been out at stupid am to give our dogs some exercise before it gets too hot and tried to find things to do as the day drags on. Some short-coated dogs are fine in 24 degrees when there is a breeze and shade, however the humidity and temps fluctuating between 23 and 24 degrees tomorrow make it to risky to do a guided walk on the South Common with no shade.
We are all very disappointed to have to cancel the walk and, unfortunately, the The Barket venue itself at Southside Lincoln may well be too warm for dogs after 5 days of 30 degree heat, so a no risk policy is the only option.
Here's what to do instead:
🐩If you want to buy gear for your dog, get the accurate neck, chest and back measurements using a piece of string before you leave home.
🐕Everyone should have a few lovely portraits of their dog so look out for Vicky from the The Puparazzi Booth and talk to her about a session with your good boy or girl!
🐾So many people are struggling with their dog's issues such as anxiety, reactivity, excessive barking, and jumping up, and are confused with the barrage of conflicting advice on SM and youtube. Come and get a 20 minute free consultation with me to see what steps you might take and what sort of training your dog needs. I also offer behaviour modification for humans who cannot stop coddling their pet and need coaching to change!😜😂
We will still have a great time so see you there and we all look forward to cooler days next week!🌦️🌧️

🐾 "That was the best walk I've ever had with her!"
When Winnie's mum first got in touch, her 6-month-old Cavapoo was becoming more challenging than she expected.
🚽 Toilet training wasn't progressing despite lots of treats and praise.
🦷 She was constantly play-biting and nibbling.
⚠️ She picked up everything she saw - including, pebbles, glass, and horse p**p.
🐕 Walks were chaotic, with Winnie jumping around, wanting to meet every other dog, and criss-crossing on the lead.
In our very first session, we focused on helping Winnie understand exactly what was expected of her. We introduced a clear marker and reward system so she could start associating her good choices with positive outcomes. We worked on following gentle guidance on the lead, practiced impulse control at doorways, played some training games with a new toy, and even started a little crate training.
Then we headed out for a walk.
Instead of being busy forging ahead and wanting to meet other dogs - and there were loads - Winnie became busy sniffing, exploring and engaging with her owner. By the end, her mum told me it was the best walk she'd ever had with her.
The changes didn't stop there.
That evening, while the family sat down for dinner, Winnie settled herself in her donut bed and went to sleep instead of hovering around the table looking for attention.
A lot changed in Winnie's world in just one session.
What she needed wasn't more affection, more repetition of commands, or more guesswork from her owners. She needed clear guidance, instruction, consistency and boundaries.
Dogs thrive when they understand the rules of our world.
If you have a young dog like Winnie, don't wait until the habits become bigger problems. Give them the guidance they need now and set them up for success.

Local dog owners – I need your help! Ferals live among us and someone is leaving these gold Strongbow cans lying around - particularly in the shortcut passageway between Upper Long Leys Rd and Burton Rd - where council mowers unhelpfully run over them instead of picking them up and binning them.
The cans are turned into ribbons of razor sharp tin and will cut the feet of any dog, cat, hedgehog, or other creature. You find this in other areas too, like Old Newport cemetery, The Lawn, etc and it would really help if you collect these tin ribbons and cans and remove them safely. Bring a bag with you when you go out. I do this all the time when I see them but we need a community effort.
Can we find out who the Strongbow can culprit is - he/she might live near or around Willis Close - thanks!
