Today we are launching a new campaign to highlight the dangers of bullying, abuse, and threatening behaviour on football banter groups.

This has become a major danger to the mental health of children and young people, although the bullying and abuse on these banter groups can affect people of all ages.

This is often dismissed by group members as "just banter".

It is NOT just banter. It is online abuse, it is harassment, it is bullying, and it is NOT acceptable. It is a crime.

Recent research by the University of East London has uncovered the dangers to mental health of these football banter groups, where people are publicly abused, ridiculed, and libelled. This is sadly a problem that affects all clubs, including Lincoln City.

We realise that not all football banter groups are bad. Many of them are well-managed by sensible people, and the groups are carefully moderated and controlled by the group owner, to stamp out any abuse.

But sadly, some of these banter groups (including the largest groups) have become infested with abuse and bullying, including hate speech, racism, and misogyny.

In some cases this results in actual threats being made in the real world, not just online.

Worryingly, some of this bullying and abuse is even perpetrated by the very people who run these groups. These Facebook group owners are supposed to be controlling the abuse, but in some cases they are actually the ones who are doing the bullying, and inciting other group members to join in. We have actual evidence of this.

Over the coming months we are are going to publish more information to highlight online abuse and bullying on banter sites, and we have already made contact with the local police and a solicitor who is supporting our campaign.

As soon as this Facebook site started to become successful, jealous people from certain other internet sites began a libelous campaign of personal abuse and veiled threats. Your activities are being carefully monitored, with everything passed on to a solicitor. We will not be intimidated, and we will continue to produce this family-friendly page for the thousands of sensible Imps supporters who are sick of the online bullying and abusive trash that appears in other places on the internet.
