Saxilby CC Milestone Moment: Ed Brook, 1000 career runs! 🙌🎉
The first in a new feature for the club, celebrating the individual achievements of our players as they hit career milestones.
First up, opening batsman Ed Brook, who hit his 1000th career run during our match away at Reepham on Sunday afternoon.
Ed’s been an ever-present at the club since we restarted and has become a permanent feature at the top of the order, taking on the opening bowlers every week and seeing off the new ball.
Congratulations to Ed on this milestone, we look forward to many more runs over the next few seasons. 🤞

A final midweek match of the season for our midweek squads tonight, as we send a combined first and second XI to play Nettleham Cricket Club’s development team in a friendly game from 6.15pm.
We’re always delighted to be asked to play a friendly, especially towards the end of the season when the opportunities for games start to wind down.
It’s a real mix of a team tonight, with some first-teamers searching for form and some regular twos players pushing for higher honours, and we’re excited to see how the team goes.
It’s the final chance to watch some hard-ball midweek cricket this summer, so if you’re making the short trip to Nettleham, we’ll see you there. 🏏

Yet another heavy defeat in this season of them for our Men’s Sunday side yesterday, as they were beaten by 95 runs by Reepham at their home ground.
Having been asked to field first, our opening bowlers bowled well, keeping the hosts to just 19 runs in their first 10 overs.
However, some sloppy fielding and a few missed run-out chances saw Reepham get away in the next ten overs and look comfortable at 72/1 at drinks.
Paul Dewey, who came into the starting lineup less than two hours before, bowled what seemed to be a match-turning spell off 4/26 from eight overs, as Reepham made their way to 175/7 from their 40 overs.
Despite the target, the pitch seemed good and we went into the chase with no fear; however, another batting collapse, including three wickets in an over, saw the chase fall away rapidly.
A battling 26* from skipper James Willox was the only real score of note as the innings fell away to 80 all out inside 24 overs.
Another frustrating day on the field, and the result extinguishes any remaining slim hope of promotion this season.
A week off next week and then four games left in 2026, as the run-in arrives.

After nearly a month off, it’s finally time for our Men’s Sunday team to get back out on the field today, as they head to Reepham for a league match.
It’s been a strange August for the guys, with this being the only match they’ll play this month, following the cancellation of the reverse fixture which should have taken place at the start of the month.
Three changes to the side which last played in July, as captain James Willox returns, alongside All-Rounder Aled David and Batsman Will Lockwood in an otherwise unchanged side.
Today’s match starts at 1pm and will be a tough test against a good Reepham side.
Given we’re not too far from home, it’d be great to see some travelling support if you’re free this afternoon.
If not, we’ll bring you news of the result tomorrow. 🏏

A win in the final league game of the season for our Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Squad last night, as they overcame tricky conditions at the SCG to beat Alford by 51 runs.
Having been asked to bat first, the innings got off to a brilliant start, with a superb 55-run partnership between Lydia Hopton (39*) and Alexa Davidson (3*), which set a tone that we maintained throughout the innings, eventually reaching 349/1 off 16 overs, with runs and contributions right throughout the order.
Once again, the defence got off to a great start, with a wicket in the first over thanks to a run out from Sarah Petch, which turned out to be the only wicket to fall in the innings.
Despite that, some good work in the field with tricky underfoot conditions saw Alford never get away in the chase, and eventually, we secured the win we were looking for.
Last night’s win secured the point required for the squad to qualify for County Finals Day for the third year in a row, which is an incredible achievement, and we’re all so proud of the squad for getting back to finals day.
As soon as we have news of a date and location for the final, we’ll bring the details to you.

A final league game of the season for our Women’s Midweek Soft Ball Cricket squad tonight, as they welcome Alford & District Cricket Club to the SCG from 6.30pm, in a rerun of the away match they won by 46 runs on Monday evening.
It’s been a good season for the squad, and they’ll be looking to round it off in the best possible way tonight, hopefully in front of a good SCG crowd.
Two changes to the side that played on Monday, as Alice Crayner and Alexa Davidson both come back into the starting eight.
A final opportunity to see the squad in action this season, so if you’re free, please pop down to the ground and cheer them on as they aim to end the season on a high note. 🤞
