The Final Chapter for AFC Minster

Today marks the final day of AFC Minster.

Just over two years ago, with the support of two dedicated parents, the club was formed with a simple aim: to provide football opportunities for girls on the northern side of the city and create an environment where they could develop, enjoy the game, and reach their potential.

What followed has been an incredible journey.

In a relatively short period of time, our players have enjoyed fantastic success in the Nottingham Girls and Ladies Football League. In our first season, the team were crowned Under-16 Division 3 Champions. A season later, the same group of players stepped up to the Under-18 age group, competing against older and more experienced opposition. They rose to the challenge superbly, securing mid-season promotion to Division One and continuing to represent the club with pride, commitment, and determination throughout the season.

One of the achievements we are most proud of came off the pitch, when the club was honoured to receive the League Respect Award. This recognition reflected the values, sportsmanship, and attitude shown by our players, coaches, and supporters throughout our time in the game.

After two successful seasons, today brings this chapter to a close. Our players and coaching staff will be joining Nettleham Football Club to reform their ladies team and take the next exciting step by competing at open-age level in the Lincolnshire Women and Girls Football League.

While AFC Minsters journey ends here, the pathway we set out to create continues. We are incredibly proud that this group of players will remain together as they progress into women’s football and take on a new challenge.

I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to the Notts Girls and Ladies Football League committee for accepting our request to play out of county, and to every club, manager, volunteer, referee, parent, supporter, and player we have met along the way. Your support, friendship, and sportsmanship have made this journey a memorable one.

A special thank you must also go to our sponsors over the past two seasons: TFM Hire - Whisby, SR Sports Therapy, CR Fitness and Unite. Your support has helped provide opportunities for our players and has played an important part in everything the club has achieved.

Most importantly, thank you to the players (and parents). Your commitment, hard work, resilience, and enjoyment of the game have been the driving force behind everything AFC Minster has achieved. It has been a privilege to watch you grow both as footballers and as young people.

Although AFC Minster comes to an end today, the memories, friendships, and achievements created over the past two seasons will last for many years to come. From Division 3 champions to earning promotion at Under-18 level and receiving the League Respect Award, this group has created a legacy that everyone connected with AFCM can be proud of.

Hughsie FC U14s Girls looking for players. Very talented group these girls and one of the top teams in Lincolnshire 🟡🔵⚽️🎗️

We are saddened to confirm that AFC Minster’s Senior Women’s team will not continue this season due to circumstances beyond our control.

Despite positive plans and signings, a number of expected player commitments did not materialise, leaving us unable to field a sustainable squad.

Our focus remains firmly on supporting and developing our U18s team, who continue to compete in the NGLFL.

We are fully committed to the female football pathway and warmly welcome new players who are eligible for U18s but may not yet feel ready to transition into open age football.

Our Senior Women’s Team are in FA Cup action this weekend, and we’d love to see you there backing the ladies!

📍 Venue: Raygar Stadium, Bridge Street, Belper, DE56 1BA
⏰ Kick-off: 2:00pm (Ground opens 12:30pm)

🚗 Parking:

• Free parking inside the ground (enter through the first gates, continue past the stand, and use spaces next to the clubhouse).
• Please note: the large car park beyond the ground is not part of Belper Town FC and is chargeable via app.
