Trip prep begins! Just over a month to go until my third visit to Madagascar! 🇲🇬 Great group, mostly all virgins to overseas fishing which will be awesome fun watching them slay and get slayed! Videos done today to help them with their packing about can be daunting what to take whether it’s your first or tenth trip.

Need to continue narrowing down but down to 8 rods/reels, 50 jigs and gave up on the lures - I want to take them all!

Away now with work for a couple of weeks but essential stock check done. More hooks and jigs ordered from Wild Seas and need to put a Sufix Lines order in. More Rapala lures VMC Hooks you can shake a stick at going on this one.

Can’t get away from fishing even when on a non-fishing holiday! On a family trip to Lake Bled with Ryan Dolby Fishing we found pumpkinseed, some massive chub and abandoned the girls for a tackle shop visit. A new tshirt, a couple of flies and a plan to revisit for a huchen one winter!

Short notice cancellation to join Dave Lewis on a trip to a new lodge for us in Mexico. I’ve fished just up the coast and Zihuantanejo is a cracking city for eating and drinking so feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Beach to ourselves, unlike the last time where there was 8-10 other anglers. Fished the flood and ended up with 8 between us. Mostly small pack fish and a lower average than the last few trips, dad had the only decent one at 106cm.

New tripod christened, just need to tweak a few things on it as my reels kept snagging the basket. Also need to rethink the shallow spools and 150m of braid, doesn’t give much to walk back after a decent cast 😬

Next trip I am going to put the pulley pennel circle/j hook combo side by side to the dongle as a couple of baits came back chewed but no hook up. Can’t decide which is best but do love the tidy hook up of a single circle. What are you all using?

Free lures anyone?!

Watched this last night, well worth a watch if you are a lure angler and either in to saltwater fishing or want to know how to start. Funniest bit at the start, “what is it”, “think it’s a ballan” but after that the boys settle in to some classic salt action with a fish a chuck.

If you are in to this sort of thing, keep an eye out in Angling Times too as they have an article I wrote on exactly the same thing, using freshwater gear for targeting the ballan wrasse.
