This global initiative aims to raise awareness of pulmonary fibrosis, its impact and the need for more research and support. PF Awareness month aims to amplify patient voices, encourage early diagnosis, and fund research to find a cure.

Did you know the answer to last week's spirometry quiz question set by the ARTP Spirometry Committee?

Q5. Which of the following statements is correct regarding the assessment of FEV1 reproducibility in an adult patient?
The correct answer was: B. The highest FEV₁ value should be within 150 mL of the next-best value, provided the manoeuvre is technically acceptable

Spirometry relies on a maximal effort from the patient, if acceptable tests are reproducible this supports that that the person gave consistent, maximum effort across multiple attempts. This ensures spirometry results are accurate and reliable. In line with the most recent ARTP guidelines 2020 (https://doi.org/10.1136/bmjresp-2020-000575), it is stated that spirometry reproducibility in adults should be within 150mls for FEV1, FVC and SVC.
