One of our members was on the chest press last week using 15kg.

To be honest, they were making it look comfortable. Their technique was good, they were in control and I could tell it was time for the next step.

I suggested we try the 17.5kg.

Straight away they said,

"I won't be able to do as many reps."

I smiled and said,

"You're probably right... and that's exactly why we're trying it."

The reason we moved up wasn't because I expected them to match the reps they'd just done with 15kg.

The reason we moved up was to take them out of their comfort zone.

Our bodies are amazing. They adapt to what we ask them to do. If we keep asking them to do exactly the same thing, week after week, eventually they stop having a reason to change.

Sometimes progress isn't about doing more.

Sometimes it's about asking your body to do something it can't quite do... yet.

They didn't get as many reps.

They found it hard.

It challenged them.

Perfect.

That's exactly what we wanted.

Because every time you step just outside your comfort zone, you're giving your body a reason to adapt. You won't always see that change immediately, but that's how strength is built. Not by staying where it feels comfortable, but by gradually asking a little more of yourself.

I think there's a lesson in that outside the gym as well.

Most of us wait until we feel ready before we try something new.

In reality, we usually become ready because we were willing to try.

NUTRITION.

When people hear the word nutrition, most immediately think about losing weight.

I don't.

I think about giving your body what it needs to do its job.

Every time you eat, your body has decisions to make. It needs energy to keep you moving, protein to repair muscle, carbohydrates to fuel activity, fats to support hormones and vitamins and minerals to keep hundreds of processes working in the background. Your body is remarkably good at adapting, but it can only work with what you give it.

That's why I spend so much time talking to members about fuel, not just food.

Take protein as an example.

Every training session creates a small amount of muscle damage. That isn't a bad thing—it's how we get stronger. But your body still needs the raw materials to repair that tissue. Without enough protein, recovery becomes slower, muscle maintenance becomes harder and the benefits of your training are reduced.

The same applies to calories.

For years the fitness industry has told people to simply eat less.

Can I admit something?

Over the last month I've been tracking my own nutrition a little more closely. Not because I had to, but because I always believe that if I'm asking people to improve, I should be prepared to do the same.

What surprised me was this... I genuinely thought I was eating enough protein and enough calories. I wasn't.

It wasn't miles off, and I certainly wasn't living on junk food, but when I looked properly instead of guessing, the numbers told a different story. It made me realise how easy it is to think you're doing the right thing without ever checking.

It also reminded me why so many people struggle with nutrition. Not because they don't care. Not because they lack willpower. Simply because most of us are making decisions based on what we think we're doing rather than what's actually happening.

That's exactly why coaching matters.

Whether it's training, nutrition or life in general, it's very difficult to spot your own blind spots. We all have them. Even coaches.

I'm not embarrassed to say I had mine.

In fact, I'd be more worried if I thought I'd stopped learning. Twenty years into coaching and I'm still asking questions, still looking at the data and still making changes when I need to. I think that's how it should be.

If there's one thing I've learnt this month, it's this...

Don't assume.

Know.

Because once you know where you are, you can decide where you're going next.

Have a great Monday.

CAPABLE.

Nobody walks through our doors feeling like the finished product.

Some haven't exercised in years.

Some lack confidence.

Some are nervous.

Some simply don't know where to begin.

That's okay.

You don't need to be fit to start.

You don't need to know everything.

You don't need to be capable today.

You become capable by showing up, learning, and refusing to quit.

One session.

One step.

One victory at a time.

That's what we build at FitLab.

Operation Me.

SEPTEMBER STARTS NOW.

Every year it happens.

The weather improves.

The holidays begin.

Routines change.

And people tell themselves...

*"I'll get back into it in September."*

Here's the problem.

The choices you make in July and August shape how you feel in September.

September isn't the start.

It's the result.

You don't have to train harder this summer.

You don't have to be perfect.

You don't have to give up holidays, BBQs or family time.

You just need to stay connected to the habits that matter.

At FitLab, we believe consistency will always beat perfection.

Because confidence isn't built in one workout.

It's built by showing up, one decision at a time.

🧡 Real Coaching. Real Support. Real Results.

**MONDAY TRUTH #001**

**We don't sell workouts. We build confidence.**

That might sound like a strange thing for a personal training studio to say.

But it's true.

The workouts matter.

The strength matters.

The nutrition matters.

But they're not the reason most people stay.

People stay because they feel different.

They walk taller.

They have more energy.

They stop worrying about walking into a gym.

They carry shopping without thinking twice.

They keep up with their children and grandchildren.

They believe in themselves again.

The weights are simply the tools.

Confidence is the outcome.

At FitLab, we don't measure success by how exhausted you are after a session.

We measure it by how much stronger, healthier and more capable you become outside the studio.

That's what expert coaching is really about.

🧡 Real Coaching.
🖤 Real Support.
🧡 Real Results.

EXPERTISE.

Everybody can give fitness advice.

Social media is full of it.

Workouts.
Challenges.
Quick fixes.
Thirty-second transformations.

But expertise isn't about knowing the latest trend.

It's about knowing what's right for the person standing in front of you.

At FitLab, we coach busy parents, professionals, people returning after years away from exercise, and people rebuilding confidence after injury, illness or simply life getting in the way.

No two people are the same.

So no two coaching journeys should be either.

Expertise isn't about making training harder.

It's about making it smarter.

Because when you have the right coach beside you, progress stops being a matter of luck.

It becomes a plan.

🧡 Real coaching. Real support. Real results.

YOU DON'T NEED TO GET FIT BEFORE YOU START

One of the biggest misconceptions in fitness is that you need to get fitter before you ask for help.

You don't.

In fact, most people who join FitLab aren't at their fittest.

They're busy.

They're tired.

They've tried before.

They've lost confidence.

They've put on weight.

They feel like they're starting again.

And that's exactly why they're here.

The goal isn't to arrive ready.

The goal is to start.

Every member you see in our studio had a first session.

Every member had doubts.

Every member wondered whether they'd fit in.

The hardest step is often the first one.

If you've been thinking about getting started, we'd love to help.

Most people don't fail because they can't do it.

They stop because they lose momentum.

One missed session becomes a missed week.

One bad meal becomes a bad weekend.

One setback becomes another month of waiting.

The secret isn't perfection.

It's building momentum again before things drift too far.

What's one thing you can do today that moves you forward?
