LOST PROPERTY

A mobile phone (mentioned in the start briefing) and a pair of sunglasses were found near the finish area today - these have been handed into the ranger’s office next to the crazy golf.

Someone also left a hoodie behind (see pic) - this is in our storage box and can be collected next week.

Congratulations to all 382 of you who made it round a rather toasty Beacon park today for our 248th event.

We had some sad news this week with one of our stalwart volunteers Brenda Groom passing away. Brenda regularly volunteered on a Saturday morning with her husband Ian - encouraging, cajoling and supporting us as we shuffled past. Ian and their daughter Jo were with us this morning.

The round of applause for Brenda was what the parkrun community is all about - thank you all.

Well done to George who barely broke sweat in an incredible 16 minutes and 12 seconds and congratulations to Olivia for her sub-19 minute finish.

My thanks to the fabulous volunteers, including those from the Lichfield Running Club for all their help this morning and well done to the pacing team - Stephen (28 minutes) and Joanna (30 minutes) both finishing 1 second away from their target times.

The 10k is on 13th September I’m off to sign up this afternoon so I can snag one of those snazzy T-shirts.

Result should be up - i had to do a bit of jiggery-pokery towards the end but hopefully it’s all sorted!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Event 248 - 11 July

Hi All

A reminder that we are back this Saturday, 11th July for our event 248 after The Cars in the Park event last week. Hope you all either enjoyed the break or visit to another local event

This weeks RD is Henry and this will be a Pacer event on Saturday.

We look forward to seeing you all and please remember, it will be hot, bring your sun tan lotion and plenty of water and stay well hydrated, and leave your dogs at home 🏠

02/07/2026

Please remember that both Saturday and Sunday Beacon Parkruns are cancelled this week due to Cars in the Park

27/06/2026

Well that was warm wasn’t it…

Thank you for preparing for the heat and being kind and considerate this morning

Thank you to the team of 31 volunteers including those joining us for the first time, those trying new roles, and those stepping into a different role at the last minute so we could bring you a smooth event today

The results are done and are taking a little while to show up, but they are there

Hope to see you all again soon - please remember we are cancelled next weekend for Cars in the Park.

We have a full roster, see you in the morning!
Remember
- water
-leave your dog at home
- leave the PBs for another day

We are a little short on scanners so anyone reasonably speedy could you jump on to keep the queues down, or if you are waiting please be patient 🙏🏻

*** Edit *** knew you wouldn’t disappoint you just needed a nudge 😆 , 5 mins after this post only a number checker to go (but we never turn anyone away so keep volunteering!)

To save me writing it all out I think Ross-on-Wye parkrun has said it perfectly. Just ignore the bit about the sports centre and the temp in Lichfield will be 23/24 degrees

Currently we are on tomorrow.
We advise
You hydrate
Leave dogs at home
Don’t run like a loon
It’s the taking part that counts not a PB

How ever at the moment we still need a minimum of one marshal and we need people for finish tokens and number checking.

Why are these roles essential?
Finish token and finish token support - you won’t get your finish token = you won’t get a time, but as you are just turning up and not going for a PB you might be ok with that

Marshal = the event won’t happen as we won’t meet the minimum for our risk assessment, there is no way around this.

Number checker = Rachel the RD might have a results related meltdown as she won’t be able to triangulate times, but to be honest that won’t be an issue if we don’t get finish token volunteers as you won’t be getting times anyway 😘

If you are thinking that running might be a bit of a challenge why not volunteer instead to ensure those that don’t mind turning into a sweaty ball of sweatiness

⚠️ parkrun important update - read before you zone out and think “I’ll be fine”⚠️

🐶 DOGS
We are strongly discouraging dogs this week. Yes, even the well-behaved ones. Yes, even the ones that “love a run”.
Little paws in furry jackets + warm ground + enthusiastic humans = not a vibe. Please leave canine companions at home where they can supervise your Strava from the sofa. There is very little shade on our course.

🌡️ WEATHER FORECAST: “Surprisingly enthusiastic” (22–23°C vibes at 9-10am)
It’s expected to be above average warmth, which means:
You will start saying “it’s actually quite nice” at 09:00
You will regret that sentence at 09:07
The sun will take this personally

🏃‍♂️ RUNNING REMINDER (serious bit disguised as friendliness):
Take care out there. Be sensible. Hydrate before, during, and after. If you’re thinking “I don’t need water,” you absolutely do. If you’re thinking “I’ll be fine,” that’s exactly what people who are not fine say.

👙 WEAR APPROPRIATE CLOTHING:
Light layers
Sun protection
Anything that does not feel like a portable greenhouse
If you start chasing a PB in this heat, please remember: the only thing you should be sprinting for is shade.

🏟️ FACILITIES:
The sports centre will be open for drinks pre- and post-run. Please use it. It exists for exactly this kind of “why did I think this was a good idea” weather.

🙋 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED (aka the smart people’s club):
This is your official invitation to have a better morning than runners.

Reasons to volunteer this week:
💙You stay stationary (peak energy efficiency)
❤️You get to clap at people who made questionable life choices
🖤You can offer “you’re looking strong!” while knowing they are absolutely not
💚You avoid sun-induced regret entirely
💙You become part of the rare group who finish the morning fresher than they started

💕Bonus: you get to witness the full spectrum of human optimism between kilometre 1 and kilometre 5.

🧠 SUMMARY:
Hot. Hydrate. Don’t bring dogs. Consider volunteering. Question everyone’s decisions (including your own, if you’re reading this while lacing up).
