The importance of looking at things globally
When I assess patients I don’t just look at where they are feeling pain, I look at the other joints / tissues and also look for movement errors which may cause problems further up the chain.
For example when I assess a shoulder, I will also look at the neck, upper back and scapula for things which may be contributing to the issue itself, not all injuries occur in isolation, they are often multifactorial.
In this particular case, a chronic lower back problem in the sacroiliac joint (SIJ) and lumbar spine, which mainly affected the left side, was found to be caused by a movement error at the hip for to weakness in the gluteus medius and TFL, so when the patient stood on one leg, greater stress was placed on the SIJ and lower back. No amount of manipulations, massage or mobility work will resolve the issue fully as long as the underlying issue wasn’t diagnosed and addressed directly!
Here at Apex, rather than just focusing on the short term fix, and saying “come back when it flares up again”, we take the approach to find the underlying causes, and address them directly so you can return to activity with peak performance without issue 🏋️🏃♀️🚴🏊♀️
