It is with great sadness that we inform you that Malcolm Ross, has passed away aged 77 following a short illness with cancer. Our sincere condolences go to his wife, Ann, and to all of Malcolm’s family and friends at this difficult time.
Malcolm was a true stalwart of rugby union in Leicestershire. Across many years, he gave his time, energy, and leadership to the game, serving both the county and his beloved club, Lutterworth RFC, with distinction. All in addition to his professional career as a Chartered Surveyor.
Many will remember Malcolm for his service on the RFU Council, where he represented Leicestershire from 1998 to 2016. During that time, he contributed to important work across governance, community rugby, and player development. Between 2010 and 2013 he served as Chairman of England Counties U20’s XV and was also the Team Manager having been instrumental in organising the first game for this England age Group at Leeds in 2011.
His own rugby journey began in and around Lutterworth, where he played for Lutterworth Grammar School and represented the county at age-group level. He also represented the Midlands from U15 through to Colts level and played for Rugby Lions RFC.
At Lutterworth RFC, Malcolm served in senior roles including Chairman, President, and Honorary Secretary. He also served Leicestershire Rugby Union as Chair and President, and in 2015 chaired the Rugby World Cup legacy committee, helping to ensure Leicestershire’s contribution as a host city was remembered with pride.
Even in recent years, Malcolm continued to support local rugby. He represented Leicestershire on the Midlands Regional Organising Committee for competitions and remained a passionate follower of the county’s representative sides, often seen watching from the sidelines.
Malcolm’s dedication, service, and love for rugby union in Leicestershire will be long remembered. We give thanks for all that he contributed, and we honour his memory with gratitude and respect. May he rest in peace.
Funeral details will be posted in due course.

And that’s a wrap on the 2025/26 season. 🏉
The Midlands U20s signed off in style — 54-17 over London & SE — with Stan Haagensen and Ben Beech both playing significant roles in a fantastic team performance. Two Leicestershire boys, representing their county and their Division with real credit.
We Couldn’t have be more prouder to have been part of your journey. 🔵🌹

Last week against the South East was an absolute thriller, with the Midlands coming out on top in a breathtaking 43-41 victory, and Ben Beech got himself on the scoresheet — outstanding stuff! 🏉💥
