🌧️ HERE WE GO AGAIN… 😩

Unfortunately, the weather has other plans for us today!

With the Met Office issuing a Thunderstorm Warning for Leicester from midday through to 9pm, along with the risk of heavy rain, hail and further poor ground conditions, we’ve made the difficult decision to remain CLOSED today.

We know this is particularly disappointing, especially on a Bank Holiday weekend — believe us, this is the last thing we want to do. 💔🎡

Our decision has been made with two things in mind: the enjoyment and safety of our visitors, and protecting the ground conditions at Abbey Park so that we can give you the fairground experience you deserve.

After the amount of rain we’ve already had, another day of heavy showers and thunderstorms would make the ground extremely difficult for both our visitors and our team.

We’re genuinely sorry to disappoint anyone who was planning to visit us today. 💚

⛈️ FAIR CLOSED TODAY ⚡️

Unfortunately, due to the heavy rain and stormy conditions forecast today, we have made the decision to close the Fair on Abbey Park and in the city centre for the day.

We know this will be disappointing, especially for anyone who was planning a visit, but the safety and enjoyment of our visitors and team has to come first. With persistent heavy rain and difficult ground conditions, today simply isn’t going to be the Fair day we want you to have. 💚

We hope to see you all soon as we head into the Bank Holiday weekend and the final weekend of our Summer Fair in Abbey Park 🎡

A few days ago, we shared the unedited version of this CCTV image showing two young boys who were seen starting a fire in Abbey Park.

Thankfully, the fire was spotted by a member of our team, who immediately raised the alarm. Our team responded quickly and, with around 20 members of staff involved, we were able to bring the fire under control before it could spread further. Thankfully, nobody was injured.

Since sharing the image, we have been contacted by several members of the public who had also identified the two individuals and had passed information to the police.

We genuinely believe that, had we not shared the CCTV image, it is unlikely we would have received the same level of information or been able to make the progress we now have.

Thank you to everyone who shared our original post, contacted us with information, and helped bring this matter to the attention of the police.

We have now been in contact with the police and have greater confidence that the information provided will assist with the investigation and that appropriate action can be taken.

This was not a harmless prank. A fire in a public park, particularly so close to our fair and with members of the public nearby, could have very easily escalated and resulted in serious injury or significant damage.

It also required a substantial emergency response from our team, alongside the involvement of the police and fire service.

We firmly believe that those responsible should be held accountable for their actions and should understand the seriousness of the consequences their actions could have caused.

Earlier today, at approximately 3:15pm, two young boys were seen running away from a fire they had started in Abbey Park, close to the perimeter fence of the Fair.

Thankfully, our team reacted quickly when smoke was spotted at the rear of the Fair and an alert was quickly raised across our radios. Around 20 members of our team responded and worked together to extinguish the fire using buckets of water.

By the time the fire brigade arrived, our team had thankfully managed to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading further.

It is extremely distressing to know that something like this has happened, particularly in a historic park such as Abbey Park and so close to the Fair, where so many families were enjoying their day. It also put our own staff, families and the wider public at unnecessary risk.

We are asking anyone who may have information that could help identify these two individuals to please contact us or report the information directly to Leicestershire Police.
