Thurlaston Junior Football Club

Our U8 Hawks represented the club at the Groby Tournament this weekend.
They played outstandingly well, toping their qualifying group and going on to finish second overall in their section of the tournament.

Two of our U16 boys received their Long Service Awards today. They have completed the full journey with Thurlaston. U7 to U16….10 years…..one club players 🩵

Our U16’s had their presentation today due to their important GCSE exams.
They are the eldest team in the club and the team that have led the way as our club has grown over the past 10 years.
U16 is the end of Junior football and it really feels like an end of an era as the boys say goodbye to five of their teammates.
Lenny, Lewis, Riley, Caspar and Varun have been a huge part of the team and the club and we wish them every success in their future football or other pursuits.
The team will be carrying on to represent the club at U18 (the first time the club has had a U18 team for 10 years!)

Our two youngest teams, the U6’s and U7’s were in action in the sunshine this weekend.
They both played some great football and scored lots of goals.
Congratulations to Freddie and Oliver for their Player of the Match awards.
It’s great to see our youngest teams representing the club with so much enthusiasm and talent.

The U8 Hawks welcomed AFC Andrews to our ground on Sunday. They were involved in a fantastic game of Football, end to end attacking football resulted in an enjoyable high scoring close game of football.

Our U12 Girls are unstoppable at the moment, they travelled to Ambleside on Sunday and it was
another 3 points and another clean sheet, Well done girls 👏👏👏

Congratulations to our U10 Talons who won the Europa trophy at the Countesthorpe tournament yesterday.
They won the final 3-1 on Penalties after a close and competitive tournament, well played boys 🙌🩵

The U12 girls were in midweek action on Wednesday night, away against previously unbeaten league leaders Albert Village.

Match Report by their coach Simon:

The game started a little scrappy, probably down to the poor weather conditions, but the girls soon settled and it was clear they were going to stand up and be counted. Zofia opened the scoring with a lovely effort and you could tell by the celebrations that the girls were well up for it. Zofia was then fouled in the box and the referee pointed to the spot resulting in Sophia stepping up and slotting it home the penalty!🙌⚽️ 2-0 to Thurlo

Second half we were uphill and had to withstand some early pressure until we were awarded another penalty as a result of a handball. Despite a delay in the kick being taken, Sophia took it all in her stride and kept calm and composed to score her second.

The display today really showed how the girls are bonded as a team, they knew they were in for a physical game but they all stepped up united and fought together. GK, defence, midfield and attacking were all spot on 🩵

A 3-0 victory against a previously unbeaten team really is a great achievement.👌
