With the next nationals coming up soon, here's a quick refresher on Jiu Jitsu etiquette for the mats.
Showing respect and keeping things
tidy makes training (and competing!) safer and more enjoyable for everyone...
* Learn to tie your belt properly! (Or risk unravelling mid-technique)
* Rei to everything and everyone, when entering leaving the training space, on and off the mats and before and after training with your partner.
* Clean gi! (if its beginning to gain sentience... wash it)
* Piercings to be taken out or covered to avoid injuries.
* Bandage up any cuts and scrapes, it keeps things sanitary and prevents any infections.
* Respect goes both ways: listen when higher belts are talking and higher belts, don't terrify the white belts...
* Help set up/tidy away mats (even if you've done it a hundred times before
* BE on time (early is even better)
* Introduce yourself to new faces, nationals brings all the clubs tohether and it's a great chance to make new friends.
* No swearing on the mats, keeps the atmosphere friendly and respectful.
* Trim finger and toe nails.
* Don't step on the mat with shoes.
* No water on the mats, slippery floors and throws don't mix well.
