As the dust settles on another awesome XTMA annual workshop here at GAMA, it reminds me just how far we’ve come. We started hosting Daniel in 2012, back when we were training out of a Thai boxing gym in Leeds (the year before I opened my first venue and five years after I first started teaching classes).
Some of the faces have changed, but the quality and the world class instruction from G**o Lonero, has only got better and better.
This weekend, opened with our focus turning to Jun Fan JKD, adding nuance and detail to the fundamentals, proving once again what an effective martial art JKD actually is (especially if you felt his Pak Sau 😉😂)..
We then moved to double dagger training, adding more layers of complexity, while seeing the obvious correlation to the empty hand Panantukan system.
Day two, saw us switch things up, training with the staff/spear, again opening up understanding of familiar territory, but with new detail, drills and lots of repetition, including utilising the double stick versus the staff.
From here we moved into Panantukan, working on entries using elbow destructions, ending in takedowns from the over and under hook.
This then moved us seamlessly into Silat, introducing a set of specific ways to cross and move around the body, on the floor, so that we better understand how to access our positions for striking and submission.
This lead us to Shooto leg locks, before closing the workshop down with Qigong, to ensure we worked both yin and yang over the weekend.
This weekend has been amazing and as ever my team did us proud.
A massive thank you to G**o DANIEL LONERO - XTMA 🙏🏻 and thank you to my team, for all your support and hard work. I’ll see you on the mat this evening 👊🏻🙏🏻
