🥋 JUNIOR SHOTOKAN KARATE KYU GRADING 🥋

A brilliant morning at Kaizen for our Junior Shotokan Karate Kyu Grading!

There were definitely a few nerves at the start, but they soon settled and we saw some great technique, focus and plenty of energy throughout the grading.

A huge congratulations to:

🥋 Alexander Brown – 9th Mon 🔴⚪
🥋 Mason Ajayi – 9th Kyu 🔴
🥋 Franky Wos – 8th Mon 🟡⚪
🥋 Elodie Pell – 7th Mon 🟠⚪
🥋 Dorian Kosicki – 6th Kyu 🟢
🥋 Patrick Wos – 6th Kyu 🟢

A special mention for Alexander, completing his very first karate grading today. He really packs a punch! 👊

These kids are the future of Kaizen, and today marked an important milestone for two of them. After a gradual integration into our Senior Shotokan classes, Dorian and Patrick have now completed their final Junior grading and officially joined the Senior class. A big step in their karate journey and one they have both worked hard for.

A massive thank you to today’s grading panel for giving their time, experience and support to our young karateka:

🥋 John Crossley Sensei – 3rd Dan
🥋 Claire Hardwick Sensei – 2nd Dan
🥋 Amber Hardwick Sensei – 1st Dan

And finally, a huge thank you to all our parents. Your commitment - getting them to training week after week, supporting them through the nerves and encouraging them to keep going - is absolutely vital to their development at Kaizen. We couldn’t do it without you!

Well done to everyone who graded today!

1,000 KATA. ONE COMMUNITY. ONE GREAT CAUSE.

On Sunday 11th October, Kaizen students of all ages will come together to take on our 1,000 Kata Challenge, raising money for Candlelighters, supporting children and families affected by childhood cancer across Yorkshire.

Thanks to your incredible support, we’ve already raised over £400 in a week - now we want to double it!

Every £5, £10 or £20 sponsorship pushes that total higher and gives our students even more motivation to keep going through all 1,000 katas.

🥋 SENIOR KARATE GRADING RESULTS 🥋

A fantastic afternoon at Kaizen Martial Arts Academy as six of our Senior Shotokan Karate students successfully took the next step on their karate journey.

A huge congratulations to:

🔴 Keaton Airth - 9th Kyu, Red Belt
🔴 Natalie Poole - 9th Kyu, Red Belt
🟠 Dominic Bower - 7th Kyu, Orange Belt
🟠 Alexandra Leblanc - 7th Kyu, Orange Belt
🔵 Heidy Monteiro - 5th Kyu, Blue Belt
🔵 Jack Green - 5th Kyu, Blue Belt

Every new belt represents hours of training, repetition, determination and improvement. You should all be incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved today. 👏

Grading days aren’t only about passing. Sometimes the result doesn’t go the way we hoped - and that’s part of the journey too. For those who didn’t quite make the grade today, keep pushing forward, keep training and keep improving each day. A setback isn’t the end of the journey; it’s an opportunity to come back stronger.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR DAN GRADES 🙏

I’d also like to say a massive thank you to our Dan Grades who gave up their time today to support, encourage and help assess our students.

True Karate is about giving back to those who come after us. The knowledge and experience we gain throughout our own journey isn’t ours to keep - it’s there to be passed on to the next generation of Karateka.

Thank you for continuing to support our students and helping them along their own path. 🥋

🥈 SILVER AT THE GREAT BRITAIN JUJITSU NATIONALS! 🥈

A massive congratulations to Bailey Kemp, representing our Freestyle Jiu Jitsu discipline at Kaizen Martial Arts Academy, who achieved an incredible Silver Medal in his first-ever competition at the Great Britain Jujitsu Nationals in Wolverhampton! 👏

Competing in the U16 69kg category, Bailey stepped onto the competitive mat for the very first time and showed exactly what he is capable of.

To put his performance into perspective, Bailey’s final opponent was an extremely experienced competitor with 26 competitive gold medals to his name, as well as experience competing at European and World Championship events.

Despite that difference in competitive experience, Bailey held his own and gave an excellent account of himself.

For a first competition, on a national stage, that is a fantastic achievement.

Everyone at Kaizen is beyond proud of you, Bailey. 🥋

🥈 First competition.
🇬🇧 National level.
💪 Silver medal.

A very bright future ahead and we have a feeling this is only the beginning.

Saturday Development Sessions 🥋

What a fantastic morning of training at Kaizen Martial Arts Academy.

Our Black Belt Session was followed by our Brown Belt Development Session, with students pushing themselves for a full two hours of focused training. We covered : kihon, kata, ippon kumite, reaction, rooting, timing, technical refinement and fitness.

There were no shortcuts today. Everyone worked hard, dug deep, supported each other and showed the attitude that real martial artists are built on. Development isn’t about staying comfortable - it’s about challenging yourself, learning from mistakes and leaving the dojo better than when you walked in.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended. Your commitment to improving your karate, even on a Saturday morning, speaks volumes. Keep that mindset, keep training, and the results will come.

Discipline. Growth. Respect. Community.
