🏏Week 12 results🏏

The First XI travelled to Ripley. Having beaten them at the Lane only 2 weeks earlier we were looking for a repeat performance.
Skipper Ward lost the toss and we were tasked with bowling on a flat pitch, lightening quick outfield and energy sapping heat.
It didn’t start well with the new ball going to all parts racing across the outfield. Pace off the ball slowed the rate, but wickets evaded us. We always felt that if we could keep them below 300, we had a chance. Their opener went to 100 before Watkins returned to pick up key wickets at the end slowing the final charge.

After a long tea break, we lost Mills in the first over, but Nick Robinson & Dexter set about a rebuild. Both accumulated well, especially Dexter knocking the balls into the big spaces on the large playing surface and running well. When Dex was out, Sivajoti followed soon after. Robinson at the other end was fluently going about building a score and keeping the chase at a manageable rate. Skipper Ward joined Robinson and rebuilt again. Robinson passed 50 and kept pushing. Once Ward was bowled Watkins added some quick runs to push the rate down. Robinson reached his first KDCC ton with the match finely balanced and continued to push us towards the target. He was eventually run out for 128 absolutely out on his feet, having been on the field for virtually the whole game. with Ripley having taken over 3 hours to bowl their overs. With Robinson out just 7 runs needed to win, they came in extras as we secured the win with 3 balls to spare.

The Seconds welcomed Pannal to the Lane, looking for revenge for the heavy defeat inflicted upon the last month.

Stand in Skipper Ireland also lost the toss and we toiled in the field. A couple of wickets at the start gave hope as the ball raced to all parts, but a partnership of almost 200 pushed the scoreboard above 300. A flurry of late wickets picked up some valuable bonus points.

In reply, things started well with Ireland and Lynch getting off to a good start. Once Ireland was out, Marriott helped push the score along. Lynch eventually fell for 60 and Marriott fell once all batting bonus points had been secured.

🏏Week 11 results🏏

The First XI maintained thier winning record away at Thirsk. Having been asked to bowl on a very flat looking wicket and a very strong crosswind, the bowlers set to work. We kept it tight but didnt get the rewards. Fielding and espcially catching was difficult with a nymber of chances falling short or sailing over fielders in the wind.

Dexter made the breakthrough followed by a wicket for Alfie with a smart catch by Logan. Their batters never really accelearated as the wind made everything pretty difficult. Watkins and Dexter returned to take vital wickets at the end of the innings to stop a final push to get the score over 200.

With the Bat, Dexter fell early, gloving a very erratic bowler down the legside to the keeper. Mills found the boundary at regular intervals and went to 50 jst before drink. He departed for 50 in the 20th over. Skipper Rich Ward built a soild Partnership with Robinson who had dug in. When he went, followed swiftly by Malthouse, Watkins joined Ward and they rapidly pushed us towards the target with the overs running out. Ward was run out just short of another half century, but the target was reached with 10 balls to spare.

This keeps the us top of the league at the half way stage of the season.

The Seconds with yet again a depleted side due to avaiability and injury faced local rivals Spofforth at the Lane.
Spofforth chose to bat and piled on the runs early on. Will Sparling stopped the flow of runs with a fantastic 4-22 of just 3.1 overs. Andy Bissett picked up a wicket on his debut too. A good effort to bowl them out in just 32 overs.

With the bat, wickets fell early, with Dave Young making his first appearance of the season starring with 42, supported by Starling and Bissett the only other batters to reach double figures. Bissett showing he practises what he preaches!!

Falling well short of the target, but picking up valuable bonus pints with bat and ball means the seconds find themselves in the lower part of the table needing some valuable wins over the coming weeks, hoping that the injuries heal and availibity improves🤞
