Today we were invited to play in the Wyke gala. Due to my incompetence at planning, thinking the gala was yesterday, we only had 6 players who could make it, we drafted in Speedys sister Remi and had to play each game with no subs. The girls showed brilliant resilience in the heat of the afternoon to get themselves up for every match. Every team we played against today plays in a higher divisions than us, so to get to the final and win it in a nail biting penalty shootout is beyond anything we thought we could achieve, we keep saying this a special group of girls and today was another example of why we think this is true. A perfect way to finish the 25/26 season.well done girls, we are so proud of every one of you👊🏻

A HUGE, MASSIVE shout out to our U8 Lionesses Today! 🦁🧡🖤

Due to a lack of teams entering the Girls’ Day at our age, our Lionesses took on the challenge of competing in the Mixed Day at the Howden Clough Gala—and what a performance they put in!

Every single game, they competed with determination, worked tirelessly for one another, and showed fantastic teamwork, resilience, and spirit. They represented themselves, their coaches, and the club with immense pride and dedication from the first whistle to the last.

A special mention for their incredible performance against the Mixed Howden Clough side that they faced, where they held their own right until the final few minutes, narrowly missing out on a well-deserved draw.

You should all be massively proud of what you achieved today. Your attitude, effort, and commitment were outstanding, and you showed everyone exactly what this team is all about.

HOWDEN CLOUGH GALA

Next weekend sees our first Summer Gala in over 7 years. This is an important event for the club and we have invested financially to make the event a success both on and off the field.

To make the days run smoothly and to make returns on the investment, we need your help.
We still need volunteers for the following:
•Referees (Saturday & Sunday)
•Hot Food Stall (Saturday & Sunday)
•Cold Drinks Stall (Saturday & Sunday)
•Crazy Hair Stall (Saturday & Sunday)

We have the balls, the whistles, the food, the drinks, the hairspray…. all we need is your time.
We are also looking for volunteers to tent up and sleep out Friday and Saturday nights at the fields to protect the setup.

We have 333 players across 29 teams. Over 500+ parents and carers, grandparents, siblings, fans, cousins… anyone that is willing to give up a few hours of their time, please message Steve Harrison (07503 932432) and he will add you to his list.

🏆 Manager’s Player of the Season – Violette Hill 🏆

After playing in goal last season, Violette embraced the challenge of finding her place in our first year of 11-a-side. Starting on the wing, moving into defence and finally making the centre-back position her own, she has been outstanding. A hard worker, a pleasure to coach, and the player who seems to produce a “tackle of the season” every single week.

🏆 Manager’s Player of the Season – Cassie Smith 🏆

Since joining from Gomersal, Cassie has been excellent and has quickly become a key part of the team. She has formed a strong and reliable partnership in defence, showing consistency and maturity beyond her years.

Cassie works hard in games and training, and is a genuinely lovely girl to have in the squad.

🏆 Players’ Player Award – Mollie Capstick 🏆

Mollie is an extremely well-liked member of the squad who has developed into a fantastic player over the course of the season. She’s become a big voice within the team, always encouraging those around her and playing with real confidence.

A player to hopefully lead the charge forward in the seasons to come.

🏆 Lionesses Award – Tierney Smithson 🏆

Tierney, like so many others, has been playing up an age group and only started her football journey this season. In that short time, she has become an outstanding member of the squad.

She works hard, trains with real commitment, and is always eager to learn and improve. She has also taken her new skills into the mixed side and shown the lads exactly how it’s done!

A real pleasure to coach.

🏆🧡 Howden Clough U13 Lionesses Presentation Evening 🧡🏆

What a fantastic way to round off the season! Every single player received a well-deserved squad award, recognising the effort, commitment and team spirit they’ve shown throughout the year.

Coaches Chris and Scott couldn’t be prouder of the resilience, dedication and determination the girls have displayed during what has been a tough season. They’ve supported each other every step of the way and grown stronger as a team.

The girls celebrated in style with their trophies, plenty of takeaway pizza 🍕 and some unforgettable karaoke performances that definitely kept everyone entertained! 🎤✨

A big welcome to Charlie and Evangeline, who joined us for the evening and are looking to be part of the Lionesses family next season. We can’t wait to see you both in orange! 🧡🦁

A brilliant first session on Wednesday evening, with a great turnout and plenty of girls keen to get involved from the start. They threw themselves into everything we put on and listened really well — a brilliant effort from all of them.
Thank you to everyone who came along, and to the parents for the lovely feedback afterwards — it's great to hear how much the girls enjoyed it.
Looking forward to seeing you all again next Wednesday, same time (6–7PM) on the school field. Don't forget shin pads, grippy trainers or boots, and a water bottle. Subs are £2 per session, and any girl who comes along for 6 weeks earns a free hoodie! ⚽️

Howden Clough GJFC were delighted to hold our first Young Lionesses training session for girls currently in Year 1 and Year 2 as we get ready for the new season.

The girls showed great enthusiasm, energy, and big smiles throughout the session. Most importantly, they had loads of fun, made new friends, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves while learning new football skills.

We can’t wait to see them back again for more exciting sessions as they continue their football journey with us. Well done to all our Young Lionesses! 🧡🖤
