⚖️🐴 WEIGH DAY @ MVT 🐴⚖️

How they look isn't always a true reflection of the horse stood in front of you. Horses have different body shapes, conditions and needs and it's important that all of those factors are taken into consideration when weighing and body scoring a horse.

Yesterday I overheard one of the MVT Family members talking to Nikki Meggison about how hard it was to maintain her horses weight when living a more conventional life. She worked so hard soaking nets, managing turnout, fixing grazing muzzles and ensuring her horse was exercised daily, often not getting home until after 9pm - all for a 20kg weight loss. Of course it was better than nothing but with the amount of time, effort and work it had taken, 20kg was rather disappointing. Hearing this got me thinking about how many people must be feeling like this 😞

She then went on to say..."And then he came here and has lost 64kg all by himself just living on the track!"

This is what really got me because not only is it true but he has a much better quality of life now and is a much happier horse because it. And, his human is much happier too. She has her life back and now the time she spends with her horse is quality time, instead of time spent worrying, planning and thinking about all the things she needs to do to keep him moving, exercised and healthy instead of being present and just enjoying the time they spend together 💞

This isn't to say that tracks are the solution!

Tracks provide a much more natural and enriching life, with the freedom to move and constant access to hay.
For some horses, Track Life can be all they need to maintain a healthy weight but some chunky monkeys will still need extra exercise to help shift the pounds and help maintain a more desired weight, whilst others might need some extra feed to provide safe calories.

Thank you Nikki Meggison BSc Hons - Independent Equine Nutritionist for another wonderful visit. It is always a pleasure to see you and your smiling face 🥰

If you want someone who is calm, kind & gentle, who does not rush and allows each horse the time they need to investigate and build confidence when stepping onto the scales then look no further because Nikki is all of those things and so much more 💯

💦 Second Water Buffet Top Up Of The Day 💦

The buckets were full but someone saw me and came trotting over to have some big sips 🤣

They have got:

🤍 Sodium Bicarbonate
💛 Turmeric
🤎 Cinnamon
🧂 Dead Sea Salt
🤍 Magnesium Oxide
💚 Spirulina

A water buffet is a great way to provide enrichment with added health benefits but they also encourage drinking which is hugely beneficial during summer ☀️

It doesn't cost a lot but be warned...they can be very addictive when you start seeing them use it and you down tools just to see who sniffs or sips what 👀

💦 Fresh clean water is ALWAYS available.

🙋🏻‍♀️ Based on our own research and something we have introduced gradually through careful monitoring and observation.

Oh, and yes, our Bee Island Floats are still proving to be very successful and staying in the buckets, even when an empty bucket gets tossed through the fence...see previous post 🤣

🫣 WATER BUFFET PROTEST 🫣

A regular occurance here @ MVT when their desired flavour runs out, which on this occasion was Magnesium Oxide & the guilty pony is in this photo 👀

Magnesium oxide is a highly bioavailable and cost-effective equine supplement used to support muscle function by aiding healthy muscle contraction and relaxation, helping to reduce cramping, stiffness, and twitching.

It can also support strong, healthy hooves and provide relief from stone bruising and soreness.

It is often used to assist horses with Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) or insulin resistance, particularly when grazing on fast-growing, high-sugar spring grass.

💦 Fresh clean water is ALWAYS available.

We are so lucky to have this so close and accessible.
Especially during hot days like we've been having!
I love being under the trees, hearing the birds and all the different wildlife there is to see.

Isn't nature just beautiful 😍

Keeping horses cool in the heat 💦
And hydrating them at the same time 🤣

🤯 OPENING A FEED BAG 🤯

Come on, we've all been there...
You pull that thread, you think you've got it but oh no.
You've made tight knot instead!
But its ok, you've got the other side to do 😉

You go again, a bit more careful this time, full of hope.
Oh no, same again so you reach for the scissors...
Mmm, now where did I put the scissors 🙄

If this is you, watch this video...

👀 HAPPY HOUR GROOMING SESSIONS @ MVT 👀

Is there anything more relaxing than seeing this?

What is most beautiful about this is that you wouldn't normally see these pair of horses stood eating together or seeking each other out for an afternoon snooze but they have chosen each other for a groom!

Another one of my favourite things about Track Life is seeing the choices they make when they have the Freedom to choose 💚

When you work outside with horses all day, there are some appointments that just aren't ideal in the middle of your working day!

But today, when it's 30 degrees and scorchio, I could not wait to get off the track to have a cold shower, scrub all the dust off and brush my teeth to go to the dentist!

Seriously considering smuggling this bad boy out under my dress 👀
