Striders Shout‑Out: Martyn
Some runners take on a challenge.
Martyn takes on a mountain range as he recently tackled the Copper Sky Trail - over 17 miles and more than 8000ft of elevation across the wild, rugged beauty of Snowdonia. That’s the kind of climb that makes most people rethink their life choices…
But Martyn?
He made it look fun, flowy, and somehow joyful - the full Striders spirit on display.
And as if conquering a vertical marathon wasn’t enough, he’s also recently qualified as an endurance coach - a phenomenal achievement that shows his dedication not just to his own running, but to helping others grow, learn, and push their limits too.
Huge congratulations on an incredible run and an incredible qualification.
Strider pride all the way. ❤️🖤❤️

SHOUT OUT to Karen
Some people talk about community… and then there are people like Karen, who live it.
Karen has been nominated for showing true Strider pride - the kind that goes far beyond running miles or chasing PBs. She’s been quietly, consistently supporting a fellow Strider who’s currently unable to run, checking in, showing up, and heading out on walks together so they never feel left behind.
That’s the heart of our club.
That’s what “No Strider Left Behind” really looks like.
Karen reminds us that Methley Striders isn’t just a run club - it’s a community of like‑minded souls who lift each other up, whether we’re running, walking, recovering, or simply needing a friendly face.
Her kindness, her presence, and her willingness to give her time show exactly why she’s been nominated.
Karen, you embody everything we stand for. ❤️🖤❤️

🖤❤️ ANNOUNCING OUR NEW RUN LEADERS IN TRAINING! ❤️🖤
We’re incredibly proud to share that Sandra, Sarah, Lindzi and Laura are officially stepping into their next chapter with Methley Striders as our next Run Leaders. They join our existing run leader team to help us provide the best strider experience possible.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each of them for volunteering their time, energy and enthusiasm to support our members.
Stepping up as a Run Leader is no small thing - it is a formal qualification and it means showing up for others, helping runners feel confident, safe and included, and being part of the heartbeat of our club.
Their willingness to give back to the Striders community embodies everything our club stands for.
They also may ask you to join in a session that they film to obtain their qualification, so please say yes!
We would also like to express our sincere thanks to England Athletics, who provided a grant towards the training costs and Howdens, for their generous donation supporting the development of our leadership team
Investing in volunteers is investing in the future of our club - and we’re grateful for the support that makes this possible.
Here’s to our newest leaders in training - we can’t wait to see you shine. ❤️🖤❤️

The smiles say it all - our Striders have been out in force over the past few weeks, recceing every twist, turn and trail of the Leeds Country Way. Mud, sunshine, nettles, wrong turns, right turns, and plenty of laughter… the photos from the recces are pure Strider joy.
This year’s LCW team is an absolute powerhouse. Every runner has shown commitment, teamwork and that trademark Strider spirit - supporting each other, learning the legs, and getting ready to give it everything on race day.
A massive thank you goes to our leadership crew who’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes. Captains Mark and Kirsty with Vice Captain Ants and Sarah have organised our teams, re‑jigged pairings when runners have had to withdraw and made sure every leg is covered with strong, confident Striders.
Their work has been phenomenal - LCW doesn’t happen without this level of dedication.
To every runner, every recce buddy, every organiser: you’re what makes this club special.
Bring on race day - the Striders are ready. ❤️🖤❤️

Huge shout‑out to all our Striders who took on the Crossgates Harriers Temple Newsam Fund Run 10k today - a race that’s hot, hilly, dusty, and absolutely not for the faint‑hearted.
Some great tunes playing, so there were some dance warm ups to behold. Then it was a start and finish on the track, with striders powering through every climb, every dry trail, every sun‑baked stretch and delivered some truly brilliant performances.
At strider HQ, we are proud of every single one of you
❤️🖤❤️

Last night our Striders traded roads for ripples with a gorgeous evening wild swim at Poole Bridge Farm.
Sunshine, still water, and the kind of peaceful hush you only get when everyone finally stops… and floats.
Striders relaxing, resting, soaking up the golden light and each other’s company. A perfect mid‑week reset, a reminder that movement isn’t always miles… sometimes it’s just letting the water hold you for a while.
What a beautiful evening with beautiful people ❤️🖤❤️

Shout out to celebrate a fantastic achievement for Sir Derek, smashing his first 10k since 2024 at the York 10k.
That’s proper Striders spirit right there. Determined, steady, and smiling all the way round.
You’ve shown everyone that age doesn’t dim the fire - if anything, you’ve proved it burns brighter than ever. The whole club is proud of you, Young Mozza. Keep inspiring us, keep showing up, and keep proving what’s possible.
Outstanding effort. Enjoy every moment of this one.

Shout out for Karen who hit an absolute milestone with her 100th parkrunon Saturday
Running is already a challenge, but showing up week after week, year after year, with that trademark Karen grit and good humour, is something truly special.
And choosing to celebrate it in Pen*stone on Yorkshire Day? That’s elite levels of commitment to the cause. Proper Yorkshire, proper iconic.
Karen, you’ve smashed it.
Here’s to the next 100 ❤️🖤❤️
