Following on from opening day disappointment against Probus last weekend due to our efforts being deserving of a result, today we hosted the newly established Biscovey U13s for our 2nd league game of the season.
Our message to the players was simple, go out and put in the same effort and performance levels as last weekend and see how we do.
What followed was a fantastic game of football from both teams, lots of excellent moments of possession, outstanding defending and wonderful efforts on goal.
Lanivet started the brighter and looked lively, coming close in the first 5 minutes through striker Tyler and winger Freddie, forcing saves from Biscoveys standout keeper.
Biscovey returned fire which was equally saved by our own keeper Chace, who always remains calm and collected.
Last weeks POTM Oscar was in fine form dictating midfield, whilst our number 10 Harry kept trying to feed the ball to our attackers.
13 minutes in and one of those excellent through balls found Tyler who latched onto it and fired home to open the scoring. Minutes later Harry again carved open the Biscovey defence with another perfect pass for Tyler to sn**ch a brace.
Biscovey did not allow this to affect their game however and they kept pushing forward, creating chances which were denied by the outstanding defensive work of our back line, led by captain Albie, who was a colossus at the back today.
Tyler, who was again exceptional, found himself on the end of a long clearance and brought the ball under control, skipped his way through the opposition and buried the ball to bag himself a first half hat-trick.
More chances followed through efforts from Taylor, Freddie and Harry, all saved or blocked well.
Biscoveys hard work rewarded them with a goal late into the first half with an excellent volley which caught our keeper out and made the scoreline 3-1 at halftime.
The teamtalk was brief, everyone was delighted with their efforts but we knew we had to keep focus.
Second half we continued dominating large parts of the game, some great patterns of play emerging from the home side with Biscovey looking dangerous on the counter attack.
Lanivet still weren't happy with 3 goals and pushed for a fourth, which was created by Tyler who played in Freddie to fire into the top corner with an excellent finish.
Now it was time to settle and tighten up, which was working smoothly until a foul was awarded to Biscovey 15 yards from goal. The player fired the ball into the top corner and beyond the reach of the outstretched Chace.
Despite more attempts from both teams, time ran out for the travelling team and Lanivet finished the game as 4-2 winners.
The match provided excellent performances from both teams and was really enjoyable to watch.
Credit to Biscovey U13s for making their first ever league game a real cracker and I'm sure they have a promising season ahead.
POTM was Freddie, he was tireless today in both attack and defence and sealed a top performance with a top class goal.
A weekend off next and then we travel to Southgate in the search for another 3 points.
