Training some of our athletes aiming for the pinnacle of their sport, means we have to work together closely.โฃ

I love the creativity of having to adapt our sessions in the gym to work towards improving weaknesses for competition days. โฃ

When Sarah comes into the Studio after each competition, we will generally have a few minor tweaks to make. This means that next time she goes out to compete, weโ€™ve tackled a slight weakness that aims at improving her ability to get the highest score possible. โฃ

This last year has seen some incredible wins at the International level, and Iโ€™m excited to see how Sarah goes with her new horse. โฃ

Great to have the man like Don back in action after his new hip. โฃ

Weโ€™ve been working together a number of years and have managed to build some amazing strength and mobility. โฃ

This has helped with the recovery from his Op, coming back so much quicker than he would have if heโ€™d have never trained before. โฃ

Sometimes though an Op is the only way to fix underlying issues like arthritis or bone on bone situations. โฃ

Donโ€™s now moving pain free and he can get his knees to the floor with single leg work. This was not achievable prior, because he just had too much limitation from the hip. โฃ

Little did she know, one day she would be arriving early for her cup of coffee, hanging around after her session to read the fitness magazines with another brew of course, plus attending the Saturday group classes too. โฃ

A complete transformation of mindset has been achieved for Anne-Marie since starting. Not only that weโ€™ve made tremendous progress with her health and arthritis in her hips. โฃ
โฃ
Iโ€™m sure she wonโ€™t mind me saying that when we started, most single leg work was a struggle to even get the knee to the floor. Today we are accomplishing front foot elevated split squats and getting the knee to the ground. โฃ
โฃ
Her range of motion in her hips has increased ten fold as we have progressed. Plus the fluidity with the exercises she completes is a pleasure to witness as she becomes more mobile and pain free.โฃ

This has also transferred over to her Bowls when competing. With each season, she manages to conquer more and more challenging opponents. โฃ

Iain has improved his bench massively since he started with us. Considering he was a person who has never set foot in a gym before aswellโฃ

Weโ€™ve had to correct the flaring of his elbows, teaching him to screw his feet into the ground to engage the core, whilst focusing on controlled reps as he loved to rush everything in the beginning. โฃ

We may now and again get a cheeky little hip thrust to help him when itโ€™s getting heavy. (He almost does it here ๐Ÿคช) But each week we dial in that teckers a little bit more. Plus the perfectionist that he is. He doesnโ€™t like to be beaten.

If youโ€™re someone whoโ€™s always wanted to master a pull up thereโ€™s a number of ways we build upto it. โฃ

Working different exercises into your routine that build the muscles in the back and arms are key to seeing you continue to progress. โฃ

Different variations of Rows & Pulldowns added in the mix will give you the confidence to start working towards some banded exercises too. โฃ

Danโ€™s doing a great demo here of some slow and controlled banded pull ups. โฃ

Weโ€™ve focused on pushing his feet slightly beyond the bar to enable him to engage his lats better. Whilst also opting for an underhand grip as we are generally a little stronger here due to the biceps working to support the movement. โฃ

Danโ€™s already got his unaided pull up reps in the bag but we were going for more reps today to create a little more stimulus. โฃ

- [ ] Before you start (If you know how to do a cat/cow) get into the cat position and really try and round your upper back. โฃ
- [ ] Use a triangle as I find the grip is better than ropes and you donโ€™t compromise weight for the rope wrecking your hands. โฃ
- [ ] Keep the hips above your knees and donโ€™t sink backwards into your heels when you initiate the pull. โฃ
- [ ] Start the pull from your Abs (try not to use momentum to get the weight moving)โฃ
- [ ] Pause at the bottom and control back to the start position. โฃ
- [ ] Your aim is to keep the Abs switched on throughout the whole movement. โฃ
