⛵️ Inter-County 2026 – Event Report 🏆
The Inter-County event saw 21 boats take to the start line over the weekend, with three races in tough conditions on Saturday leaving just 2 points separating the two teams going into Sunday.
The close and competitive racing continued right through to the final race, with the tight team scores reflecting just how competitive the weekend had been.
Orkney managed to edge out Shetland in the ILCA 7 fleet, finishing with 59 points to Shetland’s 67. However, Shetland’s strength in the ILCA 6 fleet saw them take the honours with an impressive 55 points to Orkney’s 71.
That gave Shetland the overall Inter-County title, finishing on 122 points to Orkney’s 130. 🏆
In the individual results, Shetland also stood out. Willum Leask dominated the ILCA 7 fleet, taking 5 wins from 6 races, while Michael Tait consistently featured at the top end of the ILCA 6 fleet to take the individual honours.
It was fantastic to see Inter-County Sailing return after all these years, and even better to have so many boats competing in such close and competitive racing throughout the weekend.
It was also great to see the ILCAs purchased for the 2025 Island Games back out on the water and being put to good use. These boats are a real legacy from the Games, and it was fantastic to see them providing the fleet for another big event in Orkney.
A huge congratulations to Shetland on taking the title, and a massive thank you to everyone who helped make the event happen. ⛵️🌊
