A very entertaining game in Stromness as Orkney welcomed Alness United FC across the Pentland Firth.

Plenty of goals, some great football on display and, most importantly, lots of development and valuable experience for all the players involved. 👏⚽️

Well done to everyone who took part, and a big thank you to Alness United FC for making the journey north.

🦸🏼‍♂️ Halftime Hero’s 🦸🏻‍♂️

Saturday saw our very first Halftime Heroes take to the pitch as Orkney Football Club hosted Bunillidh Thistle FC.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our young players to experience playing on the main pitch, in front of the crowd, and getting a taste of the senior matchday atmosphere. ⚽️👏

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support the players — they absolutely loved the experience! 🔵🟡🔵

📅 Our next Halftime Heroes will take place on Saturday 5th September, when Orkney Football Club host Halkirk

We’d love to see another great crowd there supporting both our young Halftime Heroes and Orkney Football Club. 🙌⚽️

Full-time in Halkirk following our first-ever match in the U16 Highland League — a fantastic milestone for Orkney Football! ⚽️

Orkney started brightly with Mark having two good chances, one where he took a cross down well off his chest to threaten the Inverness Athletic goal. Alfie Garnett was everywhere in the midfield and he set up in Elliot to turn inside, cross the ball for Mark to slot home from six yards. Bruno then had a header off the bar as Orkney looked to add more goals, and it came on the 20th minute when Alfie Garnett drove low from the edge of the box, beating the keeper to his left. Inverness then had a couple of corners and had a good chance but shot over the bar from close range. Mark had a good cross into Luca, who also sent the ball over the bar. Johnny Allen came on to make his debut in the 30th minute and was lively out on the wings. 2-0 at half-time.

Second half, Inverness Athletic started brightly and managed to pull a goal back. But almost immediately Orkney responded with Alfie Garnett driving forward from the midfield, playing a ball wide for Mark, who then played Alfie in to finish from six yards.

The game was really open at this point, and Orkney conceded a penalty, but the Inverness Athletic player skewed the ball wide of Oliver's right post. This gave the Orkney boys a lift again, and they played a lot of controlled football and the game settled down again. Mark blasted one off the bar on the 50th minute. Bruno made a couple of good runs from left back, and the midfield had good control of the ball. And then on the 76th minute, Mark curled a beautiful left-footed cross into the box for Luca lurking at the back post to slot first time on the volley, which finished off the scoring. 4-1 to Orkney. A good first performance for the boys.

Tomorrow marks a very special milestone for Orkney Football Academy ⚽️🎉

As we approach our 10-year anniversary, we’re incredibly proud to finally share some exciting news that we have been working towards for many years.

As many of you know, this winter will see our U14s compete in the Moray Firth Youth League for the third consecutive season .This has provided a hugely important stepping stone for our young players as they progress into S1 and S2 and continue their football development.

However, there has always been one important piece missing from the pathway…

We are delighted to announce that Orkney Youth Football has now been accepted into the U16 Highland League! ⚽️

This is a fantastic opportunity for the Academy and, most importantly, for our young players.
It means we can keep last season’s U14 squad together, continue developing them as a team and give them the opportunity to play competitive football at a higher level.

For the first time, we now have a clear pathway through the Academy:

Pre-School ➡️ Primary School ➡️ U14 ➡️ U16

After almost 10 years of developing young footballers in Orkney, putting that final stepping stone in place is something we are extremely proud of.

And tomorrow, the next chapter begins..

Our U16s play their very first Highland League match against Inverness Athletic in Halkirk!

To mark this exciting new chapter, we have also decided to create a dedicated page for our U14 Moray Firth Youth League team & U16 Highland League team, where we’ll keep everyone updated with fixtures, results, photographs and the players’ journey throughout the season.

At Orkney Football Academy, our responsibility goes far beyond developing young footballers. We believe it is more important to develop the whole person — building resilience, encouraging players to take responsibility for their actions, understand accountability, work through challenges and learn from both success and disappointment.

Football provides us with a fantastic platform to develop these qualities and help our young people grow into confident, respectful and responsible individuals, both on and off the pitch.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the Academy over the years and helped us reach this point.
