The Staff FC squad came together last night to celebrate another enjoyable season, kicking off with a good old fashioned inter-squad battle. The Blues overcame the White squad this year, with a much deserved 5️⃣ - 3️⃣ victory. Then it was on to the Pavilion for some much deserved recognition...

🫡 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕'𝒔 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓 - 𝑩𝒆𝒏 𝑶𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓

• Whenever he plays Big Ben carries a certain level and presence for his team, whether it's at the back or on the charge, we're all the better for his experience on the pitch. Opposition strikers significantly less so...

🦸‍♂️ 𝑼𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒏𝒈 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒐 - 𝑨𝒏𝒅𝒚 𝑩𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒓

• Not all heroes wear capes, some wear gloves! Andy has repeatedly put the team first over the course of the season, whether it GK stints or rallying the troops. That spirit goes a long way in a team.

🤝 𝑪𝒍𝒖𝒃𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅 - 𝑺𝒂𝒎 𝑵𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏

• A clubman is somebody who embodies everything about the club, fully buying into the team ethos. Nobody's probably done that more than Sambo this season on and off the field. Just check the team chat.

• It might sound like a legal firm but Barker & Thompson is a partnership that just works. Keeping the socials going, firing out the match reports, issuing the rallying cries; Staff football is a state mind.

🌟 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓'𝒔 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓 - 𝑩𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒏 𝑾𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒉𝒂𝒎

• Time and time again this season Brand has delivered such high standards of football. The close control, ability to carry a ball forward and hit the back of the net have repeatedly made the difference this season. Will he celebrate? Well, we think he did a little fist pump as he left the Pavilion. Nonchalant and good at football. Lucky lad.

Finally the evening finished with a few drinks at Spoons, with a gentle reminder of what a football team is also about off the pitch. Well done to our winners and management team for organising the night. Keep your eyes peeled for some big news in the near future! 👀🤍🎓

A date for your diaries as we celebrate the ending of another successful Staff football season and the beginning of a new era.

We'll begin the evening with some healthy competition as an inter-Staff squad go toe to toe for those important campus bragging rights, before some accolades are dished out amongst the squad for much deserved recognition.

Then just when you thought the action was over, there's a certain centenary for the University of Hull to help spread the word about. Keep your eyes peeled on the evening for a kit that we hope becomes a timeless classic.

100 years and still in style. We've come a long way under those Sunday night lights.

🧤 (𝑯)𝑨𝑵𝑫𝒀 𝑩𝑬𝑻𝑾𝑬𝑬𝑵 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑺𝑻𝑰𝑪𝑲𝑺 🧤

Football requires many attributes; whether it's hard work or fitness. However sometimes it's as simple as stepping up when there's a gap in the team.

That gap has been between the sticks recently and our very own has helped fill a sizeable void. It may be an unfashionable task, often with little room for error, but Andy's efforts are no less appreciated.

Goalkeeping isn't for everybody and with a specialist position come challenges but it's one our emergency deputy has risen to with some important interventions. Thank you AB; the glorious outfield return is on the horizon!

Temi has become a unique asset with his encyclopaedic approach to the details of the game. The lightning speed, feet and eye for goal are just handy attributes to have in his locker too!

For all the natural ability, behind it lies a man who always stays humble on and off the pitch and that approach dovetails so nicely with the inclusive Staff FC ethos we continue to foster.

was duly deserving of the gong, timing his challenges to perfection and stepping up time and time again. Don't be deceived by his blonde locks and youthful looks either; the Hagues plague was all over the opposition strikers all night long.

Charlie might have been a late addition to the squad last night but it was certainly a timely adjustment. Well done, Haguesy! 🌟🎓🤍

🏟️ 𝑭𝑼𝑳𝑳 𝑻𝑰𝑴𝑬 🏟️

A little bit of adversity never did Staff FC any harm as the 6️⃣ - 2️⃣ victory was eventually confirmed against a determined Northern Wanderers second team.

The Wanderers quickly got into their stride and went 2-0 up, catching the home side cold. Nonetheless the Staff machine remained composed despite spurning several good chances, before stopped the rot, finishing cooly in the box. Brandon Willingham was next up with a clinical strike. Thomas Dixon then displayed all the instincts of a seasoned striker to finish with aplomb into the bottom corner, before reacting first with the deftest of outside boot finishes after Sam Nicholson almost rattled the woodwork into next week to give Staff an at one stage unlikely 4-2 halftime lead.

The Wanderers side continued to show their battling qualities but the Staff backline were equal to anything that came their way, soaking up pressure like Juan Sheet. The same can be said of deputy stopper , despite handling goods outside of his area in true sweeper keeper style. No lasting damage done however, and the elder Willingham sibling soon made it a brace, sitting down everybody in front of him before finishing like a young Cantona, minus the raised collar. Big Sam Nicholson wouldn't be denied his goal, streaking forward into the box for the cross, turning and slotting his effort into the bottom corner like the Swiss Army Knife he secretly is. Full time finished with a comfortable lead but it could have been so much more but for the heroics of the Wanderers keeper, who was equal to pretty much anything that came his way. Nonetheless our visitors were much improved on their return visit to the University.

Our 𝑴𝒖𝒈 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 went to debutant Freddie Adams, who belied his youthful years to put in a very accomplished performance at CM. The kind of display we've become accustomed to by the elder statesmen who surrounded him tonight in midfield. Well done, Freddie!

We thank our opponents and referee, reminding ourselves that collective team spirit once again helped us find a way to win.

Good morning Staff FC fans! It's Friday and we're back in action against very familiar opposition in Northern Wanderers.

Last time out we drew upon all of our collective spirit and determination to overcome Wanderers' first team in one of our great club performances. This time it's the return of their second team.

Round 2 is on the horizon but like any boxing match we'll keep moving with neat footwork, try to evade those sucker punches and hopefully strike when the moment is right. Let's get ready to rumble. 🥊🤍🎓

Our 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓'𝒔 𝑷𝑶𝑻𝑴 voting has reflected the team display on show last night with the narrowest of winners. Step forward Mr Fahrenheit, faster than the speed of light himself - Jamie Dodd with 5️⃣ nominations! Doddsy notched up three fantastic individual strikes, one of which was a volley that may never be bettered on the sacred University turf in terms of connection. A work rate up top and the skills to match. Well done, JD!

Honourable mentions go to between the sticks and Sam Nicholson at CB with 4 votes each, who both had huge impacts in their respective areas of the pitch.

It's truly heartwarming to see so many players thriving in the Staff shirt, expressing themselves individually but equally working together effectively too. 🌟🎓🤍

An evening of real steel and determination on show from the Staff FC squad, as they eventually prevailed against a well drilled Northern Wanderers Vets first team.

Despite a couple of dropouts before the game and some more keeper cameo heroics from ,the Staff squad were well in the game throughout the fitst stanza, even taking the lead as goalpoacher Jamie Dodd reacted first to a brilliant save from the keeper after a penalty was given, arrowing his effort into the bottom corner. Typical of a veterans team, the Wanderers wouldn't go away and they eventually went 2 - 1 up. Fresh from his game yesterday, .ig then put the afterburners on to go on one of solo missions down the wing past the last man, into the box and rifled his effort past the flailing keeper just before halftime.

The second-half remained firmly in the balance as both teams traded glancing blows with little follow through. However Wanderers limbs began to tire and so did patience levels it seemed; enter the arena at this point Jamie Dodd! Doddsy was on hand to do his best Robin Van Persie impression, meeting a great cross in the box with a volley even the great the dutchman would have been proud of. This was quickly followed by another effort inside the box that absolutely rippled the top corner of the net, despite the keeper's best efforts to collect the match ball tonight. An assist from Brandon Willingham to Ben Oliver in the box allowed our onrushing and limping CB to unleash a striker's finish into the bottom corner which was the icing on a very sweet Staff cake.

Our 𝑴𝒖𝒈 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 went to CB Sam Nicholson who really did meet and greet anything that came his way tonight, whether it was a challenge or keeping his opposing man in deep convo. A real combative effort that we've become accustomed to. Well done, Sambo!

We thank our referee and opponents, who really showed their experience on the ball at times, giving us a real test of our credentials. However ultimately that combination of adapting, resilience and trust in each other allowed the Staff squad to unleash some very tidy play and finishes. 🤝🎓🤍

Welcome to the weekend Staff FC fans! Summer holidays maybe be in full flow but the UoH cult heroes are certainly not feeling the heat recently. Our mantra has always been to remain to keep calm and carry on regardless and while it's stood us in good stead, we'll be hoping for a strong start against new opponents in Northern Wanderers Vets.

We're familiar with the Wanderers name from when they've strolled into town before but we're sure the first team will bring their A-game.

The question is can the Staff FC squad keep their cool and ice those key moments? Remember, it's never dull at the University of Hull turf. 🥶🤍🎓
