A home derby friendly against Hall Road Blues gave the lads another opportunity to put everything they have been working on into practice — and what a team performance it was!

🧤 MACAULEY — DEBUT DAY!

Today saw Macauley make his Stingrays debut as goalkeeper, and what a debut it was! 🔥

He made some crucial saves that could have completely changed the game and looked like an absolute machine between the sticks! 🧤💪

His communication with the defensive line was fantastic throughout the game, helping organise those in front of him and showing real confidence.

What a debut, Macauley! 👏💙

🔵 CHARLIE L

Our last remaining original Stingray, Charlie L continues to grow in confidence week after week.

Playing at left back, he was dominant in his defensive position, pushing forward down the wing with the ball and even getting a shot away from just outside the box.

The confidence is growing, Charlie — keep it going! 💪👏

🔵 ZACK W

Our right back, Zack W, is another player whose confidence is really starting to shine.

Week by week, he is showing more of what he can do when he gets on the ball — stopping attacking play, dribbling around players and releasing the ball with control and composure.

It’s brilliant to see that development happening right in front of us. 👏

🔵 AVAR

Avar was right in the middle of everything at centre back today!

He puts himself into every tackle, refuses to be pushed off the ball and holds his own against whoever is coming his way.

He met the ball well today and produced some fantastic clearances when they were needed. 💪

🔵 BILLY

One of our newest recruits, Billy, has joined our back line at centre back.

After having a year away from football, he has come back in and given absolutely everything.

He produced some crucial blocks and, as the match went on, grew more and more into his role.

Brilliant effort, Billy! 👏💙

🔵 JACOB

Today was Jacob’s first time meeting the team — and he jumped straight into a match!

Playing both central defence and up front, he gelled with the lads as though they’d known each other for ages.

Great touches, some excellent clearances and absolutely no fear. What a way to meet your new teammates! 💪👏

🔵 ZACK K — FIRST GOAL! ⚽

Our versatile Zack K can play on the wing, up front or in defence — and wherever he is placed, he gives 100%.

Today was a special one as Zack scored his first goal for the Stingrays! ⚽🔥

The excitement from every single player when that ball hit the net was brilliant to see.

And after that goal, Zack just went from strength to strength!

🔵 DAVE

Dave, who has been with the Stingrays before, made midfield look effortless today.

Putting pressure on, meeting balls, finding space, playing through balls and even getting shots away himself.

A really composed midfield performance. 👏

🔵 AIDAN

Normally our central midfielder, Aidan chose to play on the wing today — and what a decision that was!

He dominated the wing, pushing forward, tracking back, dribbling past players and creating chances.

His understanding of the game is admirable and he’s a player I know I can always rely on.

Whether it’s staying back defensively when needed or driving the midfield forward to create opportunities, Aidan gives us options all over the pitch.

And he got himself on the scoresheet today too! ⚽👏

🔵 JAYDEN

Jayden is another incredibly versatile player who can be placed pretty much anywhere — and wherever he plays, he gives 100%.

Fearless in the tackle, pressing and chasing the ball down and simply refusing to give up. 💪

He doesn’t let size comparisons stop him from putting himself into challenges and fighting for the team.

That’s the attitude we love to see! 👏

🔵 OSCAR

Oscar originally joined us as a goalkeeper before getting a taste of midfield and deciding he wanted a change of position!

Today he played on the wing and up front again and was fantastic in both.

He kept himself onside when playing striker, made great runs onto the ball from the wing and worked hard throughout.

And this time…

Oliver plays on the wing because that’s where he really shines — and today he showed exactly why.

He’s skilled on the ball, has a fantastic understanding of the game and never lets up.

Whether it’s putting the ball in the back of the net or creating opportunities for someone else, Laiton is always looking to make something happen.

I can’t talk about one player without talking about them all, because every single player who stepped onto that pitch contributed.

Each player brings their own strengths, and those strengths are now starting to come together as one team.

The link-up play from the defensive line into midfield, and then from midfield into the attacking areas, was second to none.

The lads are starting to understand each other’s movement, positioning and playing styles — and you can really see the team beginning to gel. 💙👏

Hall Road Stingrays welcomed Wawne Wolves U13s from Division 5 to our home ground at Dene Park on 16th August ⚽️

With a bare squad of just 9 lads available today, we knew they were going to have to dig deep, keep going and give absolutely everything they had — and that’s exactly what they did! 💙🤍

A special shoutout to Jayden, Oscar and Zack K for stepping up and playing out of position today. We had midfielders filling in at the back and even a goalkeeper playing upfront! 😅 Every single one of them did a fantastic job wherever they were asked to play.

Jayden and Oscar both made some absolutely crucial saves throughout the match, keeping us in the game when Wawne were pushing. 🧤👏

We opened the scoring through Oliver, who found the back of the net by slotting the ball through the keeper’s legs. Not long after, Oliver was at it again with another great finish to put us 2-0 up. ⚽️⚽️

Wawne kept fighting and the game became very quick-paced, with both teams battling for every ball. They managed to pull one back before half-time, meaning we went into the break 2-1 to Hall Road.

We knew Wawne would come back out fighting in the second half — and they did. They managed to equalise at 2-2 and created a few more chances as they pushed for the lead.

A beautifully timed through ball then sent Oscar through on goal, and he calmly slotted the ball through the keeper’s legs. Unfortunately though, the goal was ruled offside. 😩

But we didn't have to wait long...

Oliver completed his hat-trick! ⚽️⚽️⚽️🔥

We were chasing the ball a little towards the end and drifting out of positions slightly, but these are exactly the things we want to see now so we can identify them, work on them and iron them out before the season gets properly underway. 💪

After a tough, fast-paced game, the final whistle went...

So this week we traded our training for something a little different.
We had a run out with the Group 3 Hall Road Rangers U13's in 4 x 15 minute games.

The experience of playing a high division team was great just to see what we are capable of and were we are right now as a team.
This also helped with changing positioning, see who works better where and those link up plays.

The Stingray's went out and gave it their all, as usual.

We were holding our own, we were quick passing up the pitch, there were some great timed through balls, we were also getting our shots off, but unfortunately for us their defence were on top straight away. But that certainly didn't stop us from trying.

We seemed to stay strong throughout, holding our own. Having some great link ups from defence to midfield and midfield to striking. The Rangers midfield speed were just on fire and caught our defence off guard a couple of times.

We were met with some decisive decisions by the ref, 2 offside goals and a clear penalty not given. The boys didn't complain, they kept on going and giving 100%.

Games finished.
2-0, 0-0, 1-0 and 2-0.
The score line doesn't reflect how much effort they put in and how much we were in our opponents half attacking.

For only 3 months this team has been together, and we are achieving great things already. We have things that we have to keep working on, but the work rate that all the lads put in, is phenomenal and I couldn't ask for any more off them.

PICKERING PYTHONS 2–4 HALL ROAD STINGRAYS

On 2nd August, the Stingrays travelled to the home ground of Group 5 side Pickering Pythons for another important test ahead of the league season.

We actually came up against Pickering Pythons previously at the Withernsea Tournament, where unfortunately we lost to them. So we knew this was going to be another good test for the lads and an opportunity to see how far we had come.

I’ll be honest… our chat before the game went something like this:

“Whatever happens out there today — if we lose, if we win — we do it together. This is about getting the experience in before the league games start.”

And when that whistle blew… the lads gave it 100%. 💙

From the first minute, we pressed, intercepted and worked hard to keep possession. The effort and intensity were there from everyone, and within the first 5–10 minutes, Layton opened the scoring to give us the perfect start. ⚽️

Standout moment came from Charlie L in defence, who stepped up and took a free kick from his own half. Incredibly, it flew all the way forward, struck the post, and landed perfectly for Layton to slot home — a brilliant team moment and a great example of us working together from back to front. 👏⚽️

Alfie deserves a special mention too. He came in to help us out when numbers were low and did a brilliant job helping our back line, keeping things organised and making sure we stayed in control at the back. 👏🛡️

And then there was Finley… an absolute little machine on that wing! 🔥 He was pressing, fighting for every ball and working incredibly hard throughout the game. His footwork to get himself out of some difficult situations was absolutely brilliant, and he never stopped battling. 💪

A real highlight of the game came from a fantastic attacking move, where a cross was played right across the front of the goal. Reacting brilliantly, Finley produced an airborne flying kick finish, sending the ball crashing into the back of the net. A superb goal and a real moment of quality. ⚽️🔥

We continued to work hard and went into half time 3–0 up.

The second half was a different test. Pickering came out fighting and put us under plenty of pressure, managing to pull two goals back. With the heat taking its toll and only having minimum substitutes available, the lads were understandably tiring towards the final 10 minutes.

But they dug deep, kept going and found another goal to put us back in control.

A brilliant result, but more importantly, another valuable experience for this group before the league season begins.

A massive thank you to Finley and Alfie for coming along and helping us out when we were low on numbers. It was hugely appreciated. 👏

The effort these lads are putting into training is starting to show in these matches, and that’s what makes this even more rewarding to watch.
