Today, we took on Cross keys AFC , a fellow league opponent, in what proved to be a valuable pre-season test. We knew it would be tough, with Cross Keys strengthening over the summer. And early on, they justified that reputation. Cross Keys dominated the first half we were sloppy in possession. Made too many poor decisions, and lacked quality. It wasn’t long before they punished us, taking a deserved 1–0 lead. We had moments, and one of them caught Cross Keys off guard. Owen Drewery slid a clever ball through to Conor Calvert, who held off two onrushing defenders and produced a brilliant backheel into the net to make it 1-1, a fortunate equalizer given the balance of play. The second half was a different story. We made changes, settled, and took control. It really became a game of two halves. Calvert grabbed his second, finishing confidently from a Bradley Briggs assist to make it 2-1. And to round things off, Youssef Sali fired in a long-range effort after a scramble to put the result beyond doubt. 3-1 Bradley Briggs was named man of the match, while Calvert deserves huge credit for his pivotal role up front. Linking play and taking both of his chances superbly. It was also great to see Kieran Cook return from a long injury. He slotted in seamlessly and distributed the ball very well. There was plenty to build on from this performance, but also a reminder that it could have gone pretty differently.

MATCH PREVIEW|Cross Keys AFC

Another pre-season fixture against league opposition ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Cross Keys have strengthened considerably following a turbulent end to last season, so we’re expecting a strong and competitive test.

For us, it’s another valuable opportunity to continue working on our shape, style of play and match sharpness as we move closer to the start of the new season.

We’re looking forward to another good challenge and another important 90 minutes for the squad.

FULL TIME | Glebe Rangers 3–13 New Kings County FC

New Kings County FC started at a high tempo, taking control early and leading 6–0 at half-time.

The team dominated possession and territory, playing with pace and purpose while creating numerous chances. Their work rate was strong, and their quality in possession reflected a well-organised, cohesive performance.

A brief 10-minute spell saw concentration drop, during which Glebe Rangers scored twice. Their third goal came from a well-executed corner routine, finished with a header. Outside of this period, New Kings remained in control.

The side maintained their intensity and attacking threat to the final whistle, securing a 13–3 victory.

A productive pre-season outing with plenty of goals, positive passages of play, and valuable match fitness gained for the squad.

Today’s man of the match was Shaun Knowles absolutely relentless today and caused problems all game contributing 5 Assists in today’s fixture

MATCH PREVIEW 👑⚽

This weekend we welcome Glebe Rangers for our latest pre-season fixture.

We were originally scheduled to face Linnet, but following their withdrawal earlier this week, Glebe have stepped in to provide us with another valuable test ahead of the new season.

Having faced Glebe on several occasions previously, we know they will provide a competitive challenge and we’re looking forward to renewing acquaintances once again.

Pre-season has been extremely productive for us so far, with a major focus on implementing a new formation and developing our style of play. Each fixture has given us an opportunity to refine the system, build understanding and continue preparing the squad for the season ahead.

With several key players unavailable this weekend, it presents another important challenge and an opportunity for others to step in and show what they can bring to the side.

The result remains secondary at this stage — the priority is progression, performance and ensuring we’re ready when the competitive football begins.

Another valuable 90 minutes ahead.

FULL TIME | Hull Athletic 2–2 New Kings County

Last night, we accepted a late invitation to face ERCFA Championship side Hull Athletic in an additional pre-season friendly. Despite having played 90 minutes just two days earlier, the lads were more than happy to take the opportunity for another competitive test.

The opening half was played at a high intensity, with both sides enjoying good spells and testing one another. Hull Athletic struck first with a well timed pass and great run and showed their quality throughout the half — a well-organised side, comfortable in possession and keen to move the ball quickly.

Our response was excellent. Dec Hallett delivered a quality corner into the area, where Carlo Carling rose highest to power his header home and bring us level.

The game continued to swing from end to end, with both sides looking dangerous. Shortly before the interval, a moment of individual quality from the Hull Athletic forward restored their advantage and sent us into half-time 2–1 behind.

We made a tactical adjustment at the break, with the intention of exploiting the wide areas and being more aggressive when we regained possession. The response from the players was outstanding, and our second-half performance was a significant improvement.

The equaliser came through an excellent passage of play. Shaun Knowles produced a superb through ball to release Matty Meakin, who made no mistake, emphatically finishing from outside the area to make it 2–2.

From that point, the momentum began to shift in our favour. As the game progressed, Hull Athletic started to tire and we created several opportunities to take the lead. On another night, we perhaps could have put the game to bed,
But Hull Athletic remained organised, competitive and dangerous throughout, and ultimately both sides were good value for the draw.

A thoroughly enjoyable game between two competitive sides, both missing key players but still producing a high-quality and entertaining contest.

A huge thank you to Hull Athletic for the late invitation and for an excellent game. Without doubt, one of our most enjoyable fixtures of pre-season so far.

Another valuable 90 minutes, another strong test, and plenty of positives to take forward.
