The ACTIVE Cup is an immersive project competition developed to help engineering and construction professionals strengthen their project delivery, leadership and collaboration skills in a realistic, high-pressure environment.

💡The overall learning aims of the competition are to develop:

• An understanding of management processes in the continuous planning / ex*****on / control cycle of a dynamic project.
• The implementation of the ACTIVE Principles in the ex*****on of a dynamic project.
• An understanding of the relationship between cost, schedule and cash flow.
• An understanding of project risk management and the allocation of commercial risk through appropriate forms of contract.

The ECITB has paid tribute to Board member Steve Hunt following the sad news of his sudden passing.

Steve was Executive Vice President at Altrad UK, Ireland & Nordics, as well as an ECITB Board Trustee, Council Chair and judge for the Engineering Construction Industry (ECI) Training and Development Awards.

Lynda Armstrong OBE, Chair of the ECITB, said: "On behalf of everyone at the ECITB, we would like to pass on our condolences to Steve’s family, friends and colleagues at Altrad at the sad news of his passing.

"We greatly valued Steve’s contributions over the last six years as a member of the ECITB Board in not only helping steer the direction of the ECITB but also championing our work across industry.

"His passion and experience were a massive asset to drive forward the skills agenda in the engineering construction industry (ECI)."

Our Leading a Team Safely (LaTS) one-day course provides an essential introduction to managing teams within the context of health and safety in industry.

Aimed at supervisory staff who have responsibility for teams, the course is broken down into different elements that delve into areas such as:

• the ingredients of a successful team
• effective supervision, monitoring and communication
• leadership skills and styles
• providing clear objectives

One of the elements of the course is titled ‘The Plan’ and goes into what you need to put in place to plan for a successful and safe job, with the course stressing the importance of planning to ensure people are set to work safely.

We’re proud to be partnering with Adura and North East Scotland College to deliver the Girls in Energy programme.

Girls in Energy plays an important role in supporting a more diverse talent pipeline, helping students build their knowledge, confidence and connections while gaining a better understanding of the many career paths available to them.

Now underway, the year-long, hands-on engineering programme brings together 284 students from 18 schools across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, giving young women the chance to explore careers across engineering, construction and the energy sector.

As ECITB Chair Lynda Armstrong, OBE FEI, explains:
“Girls in Energy provides an excellent opportunity to encourage more young women to consider careers in an industry that offers rewarding and impactful career paths.”

The programme aims to help build the diverse workforce needed to support current and future opportunities and the wider energy transition.

We know September can be a tough month for young people - especially for those who didn't quite get onto the course they'd hoped for! If that's you, or someone you know, we don't want that door to close on a career in engineering!

REAGIT is delighted to announce we're now able to offer an additional Engineering Construction Industry Training Board REAGIT Scholars cohort, starting 28th September 2026.

This is a genuine second chance to start a fully-funded, full time course into a skilled trade — but spaces are limited:

Yesterday, our Director of Learning and Assurance, Chris Mann, chaired the panel "Engineering the Future: The Evolution of Apprenticeships and Early Career Talent" at Connected Britain.

The session explored how the engineering sector is evolving its approach to training and talent development to meet the demands of a rapidly changing industrial landscape.

He was joined on the panel by Sarah Chowdhury (OSB Group), Daniel Tingle (National Grid) and Giles Hudson (National Grid).

Today, we hosted the first combined midpoint review of the Project Mentoring Management Programme (PMMP) and Project Management Development Programme (PMDP).

The midpoint review is a valuable opportunity for our mentors and mentees to reflect on their experience so far, share feedback, and help shape the next three months of the programmes.

We also held a dedicated mentor feedback session, giving us the opportunity to understand what’s working well, identify where additional support may be needed and capture valuable lessons to take forward into the next cohort.

It was fantastic to hear from everyone involved and hear about their experiences and progress so far. A huge thank you to our mentors, mentees and the PMSG for your continued commitment and dedication!
