Maghera Strollers 1 - Kilrea United 4

First three points of the season, and they were well earned against a very good Maghera Strollers side.

Maghera made the perfect start, punishing a lapse at the back inside the opening ten minutes. Kilrea steadied themselves and were level when Fergal Coyle struck a superb equaliser.

The second half was a different story. A much improved team performance told when Skinner Bradley put Kilrea in front with a superb finish.

However Maghera hit straight back up the field and were awarded a dubious penalty, but nevertheless big Stevey Johnston pulled off a monstrous save with the ball heading for the bottom corner.

From there on Kilrea controlled the game. Sean Walsh made it three, volleying home a superb pass from Niall Johnston, before Pearse Larkin added a fourth with a finish from an acute angle.

Kilrea United Football Club joins clubs across the area in mourning the passing of Ian McCulloch, known throughout local football as Slicer.

Ian officiated Kilrea fixtures over many seasons and was a familiar and well respected figure in the local game. He went about the job with fairness and humility, and he always had time for the players and coaches of every team he took charge of.

The club extends its sincere sympathy to Ian's wife, his children and all of his family and friends.

He will be remembered fondly by everyone at Kilrea United.

McCulloch - July 28th 2026 (peacefully) at his home, surrounded by his loving Family. Ian, dearly loved Husband of Eithne, 23 Golf Terrace, Magherafelt, much loved Dad of Gary and Karen, loving Son of Muriel and the late Andy and dearest Brother of Victor, Keith, Ronnie and Arlene. House strictly private. A Service of Thanksgiving for Ian’s Life will take place in Christ Church, Castledawson on Thursday, July 30th at 2:00pm, followed by burial in St. Swithin’s Parish Churchyard, Magherafelt at 3:00 pm (approx.). What a week it was last week for one of our 2013 girls, Fiadh Quigg!

First it was the Foyle Cup with Kilrea United, and then it was on to the home of the GAA - Croke Park, to play in the half time game at the All Ireland Senior Football Final, lining out in the Mayo kit in front of a packed house.

Two huge occasions in the space of a few days and she took them both in her stride. That's a week she will be telling people about for a long time!

Everyone at Kilrea United is very proud of you, Fiadh. Well done 👏

What a performance from the boys to get the job done against Tristar FC at Greenbrae this morning. Every single one of them left it all on the pitch and they are worthy winners.

And what a way to cap off a fantastic season. This group has grown week on week, worked their socks off at every training session and never stopped believing. Today they got the reward their hard work deserves.

Huge congratulations to the players and to the management team for everything that's gone into this campaign. And a massive thank you to everyone who made the trip to cheer them on. Your support means the world to this club.

The future is bright at Kilrea United. There are some real stars in the making in this squad, and days like today are only the beginning for them.

Proud doesn't even come close. Enjoy every minute of this one, lads. You've more than earned it!
