🏊 **ONE SESSION. INDIVIDUAL PACES.**

How do we make threshold training work in a squad where everyone swims at different speeds?

We use Tempo Trainers to set individual target times based on each swimmer’s ability.

This allows everyone to complete the same session structure, while working at a pace that’s appropriate and challenging for them.

No trying to keep up with the fastest swimmer. No cruising because the pace is too comfortable.

Just structured, individualised training within a supportive squad environment.

That’s exactly what we aim for with **Swim Squad** β€” purposeful sessions that help each swimmer progress.

🏊 **CAN YOU EARN YOUR REST?**

In this Swim Squad set, the Tempo Trainer keeps ticking β€” and your job is to get ahead of it.

The faster you complete each length, the further ahead of the beep you get and the more rest you earn before going again.

Slow down and that recovery starts to disappear. πŸ‘€

It’s a simple but effective way of challenging swimmers to maintain speed and consistency as fatigue builds.

Just one example of how we make our weekly **Swim Squad** sessions varied, challenging and purposeful.

Make yourself visible in open water πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈπŸŒŠ

As we head into some of the best weeks of the open-water swimming season, a quick reminder about one of the simplest pieces of kit you can take with you β€” a tow float.

A tow float shouldn't interfere with your swimming, but the bright colour makes you much easier to spot by other water users. Dry-bag versions also give you somewhere to carry essentials such as your phone and keys while you swim.

Pair it with a brightly coloured swim cap to help make yourself as visible as possible.

If you're new to tow floats or looking for one for your open-water swimming, you can have a look at the ZONE3 range here:

Stay visible. Swim safe. Enjoy the open water.

🏊 **WHAT TO EXPECT FROM OUR FRONT CRAWL DEVELOPMENT COURSE**

Our Front Crawl Development Course is about more than simply swimming lengths β€” it’s designed to help you understand your stroke, improve your technique and build the confidence to take your swimming into open water.

🏊 **Session 1 – In the Pool**

We start by breaking front crawl down into its key components. Using a range of drills and individual coaching feedback, we work on body position, rotation, breathing and developing a more efficient stroke.

🌊 **Session 2 – At Broadfields Lake**

We then take those skills into open water. You’ll work on sighting, drafting, swimming alongside others and becoming more comfortable and confident in an open-water environment.

The course is aimed at swimmers who can already swim at least 25m front crawl but want to develop their technique and progress towards longer-distance or open-water swimming.

🏊 DRILL OF THE WEEK: 6-1-6

The 6-1-6 drill is a simple but effective way of working on body position, balance and rotation in front crawl.

Using fins gives us a little extra propulsion and stability, allowing swimmers to slow things down, exaggerate the rotation and focus on holding a strong position in the water.

It’s just one of the drills we use in our weekly Swim Squad, where every session combines technique work with structured swim training to help you become a more efficient and confident swimmer.

πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ Pull Buoy: Friend or Enemy? πŸ€”
Neither.
A pull buoy is simply a tool.
Used well, it can help improve body position, develop your catch and allow you to focus on upper body mechanics.
Used poorly, it can:
❌ Mask poor body position
❌ Reduce kicking ability
❌ Encourage dependence on equipment
❌ Hide weaknesses in your stroke
My rule of thumb?
βœ… 80% swimming without equipment
βœ… 20% pull buoys, paddles and fins
Equipment should enhance skill β€” not replace it.
The goal isn't to become better at swimming with toys.
The goal is to become a better swimmer.

🏊 What a pull buoy actually does
🏊 When it can help
🏊 When it can become a problem
🏊 How I use them with athletes
🏊 The 80/20 rule I recommend
Do you love pull buoys or avoid them altogether?

🏊 Summer Swim Courses are Here! 🏊

We're really excited to announce our summer swim courses, designed to help you become a more confident, efficient swimmerβ€”whether you're preparing for an open water challenge, a triathlon, or simply want to improve your technique.

Hi, I'm Francesca. I'm a Level 2 Swim Teachers Association Open Water Swim Coach and a British Triathlon Coach, and I'm delighted to be offering a new style of swim course this summer.

These courses are suitable for all abilities. Whether you're just learning to put your face in the water, want to master breathing without swallowing half the lake, or you're looking to improve your front crawl technique and endurance, there's a course for you.

Each course is split into two sessions:

🏊 Pool Session – One hour in privately hired lanes, giving us a calm environment without public swimmers. This allows for much more personalised coaching, close observation, detailed feedback, and, where appropriate, in-water demonstrations to help build both your technique and confidence.

🌊 Open Water Session – We'll then transfer those skills into the lake, helping you apply everything you've learnt while introducing key open water techniques.
