After our opponents pulled out of our final Wolverley Women FC pre season friendly, the team got together for a small sided match between themselves.

We looked to continue the intensity of Friday's training and it was great to see players working hard to play football.

The focus was on calm build up, trying to force the opponent’s into pressing and then finding the gaps left by the space.

This group has one final session on Friday before Sunday's opener against Droitwich 💪🦢⚽️

Today was the first game at Mill Lane for our U14 Warriors, on a very humid and muggy afternoon.

This was the lads' first game since last season's promotion and, without knowing what to expect, they ended up delivering a very dominant display against opposition who’s only real threat were from set pieces.

That was down to our boys' being nice and disciplined in their shape, winning more of the second balls and winning our individual duels all over the pitch defensively.

Offensively, the front three today offered serious pace and dynamism and JB delivered 30 minutes of absolute sensational wing play to drive us up the field with quality and a confidence of a player in form.

OM played his first game as centre forward with our highly talented TB out injured for the season.

The number nine shirt didn’t weigh heavily and he delivered a poachers finish for his first and then backed it up with a second half salvo, breaking from centre midfield to kick off his season with a hat-rick.

Two nice, clean set long distance strikes caused us problems and we didn’t deal with them well, leading to some concerned faces at 4-2, but we drove forward, finding more gears to win the game 8-2 with five different scorers.

A big shout out goes to our back line and CDM’s whoever came in, did a fantastic job.

It was a great start but that is all it is, a start. There's lots still to work on, but a huge well done to the lads who put into practice many of the aspects of what we have worked on in pre season.

Goalscorers: OM X3, JB X1, JA X1, MK 1, AB x2.

No player of the match this week as there were several standout performances, this one was for the whole team!

Well done Swans, welcome aboard! ⚽️🦢

Unfortunately our U7s first ever match was postponed this weekend, so they got together for some training and practice matches instead!

This group are raring to go and showing some serious skills already. Hopefully they'll get the chance to make their season debut next weekend.

After a game of 'throw the bib tag' and a very competitive mini tournament, they headed up to Wolverley Sports and Social Club for chips and nuggets.

Great work Swans 🦢⚽️

🦢 Thanks to Swazza the Swan for sponsoring our U7s this season! 🦢

Our U15 girls faced a new team in a new league yesterday, coming up against Dudley Kingswinford Vixens.

The game started off slowly, with the opposition having most of the possession, but our girls battled hard and defended really well.

Holding their line and being led by their new team captain, the defence played their attackers offside on numerous occasions creating a frustration in their play.

One of our midfielders was a constant outlet for the defence, trying to be creative and battling and our keeper made some incredible saves (sometimes two or even three at a time) in a flurry of attacks from the Vixens.

A credit to our girls who fought hard throughout the game without any substitutions to aid in resting those that had already given so much.

Players of the match were our goalkeeper for her bravery, excellent shot stopping and positioning in goal and our midfielder for running the midfield, being creative and battling all through the match.

A defeat, but many positives to be taken and no doubt will be rewarded with a result soon.

Yesterday morning our U9s played host to Kidderminster Athletic Vipers.

Leading up to the fixture our Swans had the pleasure of playing an extremely competitive friendly against great host Bewldey Town on Thursday night.

The first half of our game against Kidderminster Athletic Vipers was an extremely close and competitive game with our young Swans showing super concentration levels and their now common place "Swans Desire".

Unfortunately, we struggled to maintain the same levels during the second half. However, our boys still continued to push on and kept battling. Which is something that we can all be proud of.

Our Player of the Match went to a player who has faced some challenges this week, and we are all so proud of the way he has responded in today's match. He was solid in his challenges and was quick to cover ground during his defensive duties.

Spectators player of the match went to our goalkeeper. A tough day to be a goalkeeper but he pulled off some fine saves and incredible blocks.

Well done Swans 🦢⚽️

Wolverley FC U12 Girls 0–8 Inkberrow Youth Girls U12 Eagles

Today our U12 girls welcomed Inkberrow Youth Girls U12 Eagles to Mill Lane.

It was a challenging morning for the girls today, but one they really grew into.

The football they played was fantastic at times, with the girls confidently playing the ball around the back, trying new things and looking at what could work if we changed or adapted certain things.

With a few players having to play out of their usual positions, it was always going to be a test, but the girls never let that affect their attitude.

Heads never dropped, smiles stayed on faces and every single player gave 100% right until the final whistle.

Although the scoreline wasn’t what we wanted, there were plenty of positives to take from the game and a lot for our coaches to look at.

These are the games where we learn, experiment and continue to develop as a team, and there was plenty today that we can build on going forward.

🏆 Today’s Parents’ Player of the Match was fantastic in midfield. Full of running throughout the game, she never stopped working and was always looking to drive into space and make things happen. A thoroughly deserved award.

🏆 Today’s Coaches’ Player of the Match was outstanding. Very vocal throughout the game, she showed great character and resilience, not allowing a mistake to affect the rest of her performance. She was strong defensively and continued to battle throughout.

And then, from somewhere, she produced an absolute rocket of a throw-in! Where that one came from, nobody quite knows! 😂

A difficult scoreline, but so many positives to take from today. The girls showed exactly what we want to see: effort, resilience, a willingness to try new things and, most importantly, a smile on their faces.

Keep going, girls 🦢 ❤️💛🖤

Wolverley U12 Warriors 0-9 Cradley Town Academy

Our U12 Warriors rocked up at Mill lane to the smell of sizzling bacon!

Our Swans faced a strong Cradley side who had demolished their previous opponents, but started the game well and had more of the ball in the opening minutes.

Unable to make a break through the tide swiftly turned and Cradley started to dominate possession and launch attack after attack!

Two soft goals gave Cradley a lead and this was just the start, as the Cradley three pronged attack ripped the heart out of the Warriors defence!

It was about levels today and although Warriors showed fight, they were just outclassed in every department by a team too strong for this division.

Joey and Rory got the POM for stand out displays, on the wing and left back respectively, but today is one to put behind us and go again next week in the cup.

The second match of the season saw our U11 Swans host Redditch United at Mill lane for their first home game of the season.

From kick off it was obvious Redditch United were a well drilled team, with sharp passing and link up skills leaving our Swans scrambling in defence.

Our new additions showed good confidence and composure on the ball early on.

Despite that, Redditch kept up the pressure on us.

We worked hard to keep up with the visitors, and a ball over the top saw us break through with a one on one with the keeper.

In the second half our Swans struggled to gain any momentum on the ball early on.

We continued to chase the game and put pressure on the opponents goalkeeper as the half went on.

Lots still for us to work on but, as always, we go again next week! 🦢⚽️

Well done Swans.
