David “Stuffy” Ingham’s funeral will take place at Walgrave church at noon on Monday 24th Aug. All welcome. This will be followed by a gathering at Kettering Town Cricket Club.

Kettering Town CC is sad to announce the passing of Club President David “Stuffy” Ingham on Thursday 13 August.

David moved to Kettering from Manchester in 1972, immediately becoming a regular in the first XI and was soon club captain, leading the team to successive County League Championships in 1977 and 1978. The following year he was picked to play for Northamptonshire Second XI and remained a committed and valued first team player at Kettering for over a quarter of a century, bringing out the best in whoever played beside him.

Stuffy contributed so much more than simply playing for the Club. He led the Junior Section for many years, his involvement starting in the days of a single club “Youth Team” before helping develop a system covering under 9’s to under 17’s. Countless youngsters benefited from his experience and uncomplicated coaching as they began to make their way in local cricket, his one mantra, simple and straight forward, but never forgotten to those who were ever told: “Play Straight…”

Having represented and captained all of Northants’ Senior sides he received what may be the ultimate accolade for any club cricketer in 2015 – selection for England, playing for the over 70’s in home and away “Silver Ashes” Test Matches against Australia.

He played his last KTCC game in 2022 aged 81.

Our condolences go to his wife Helen, daughters Wendy and Jenny and their families.

Legend is an overused word but at Northampton Road nothing is more appropriate when talking about David Ingham.

Our Women’s XI beat top of the league on Sunday to close the gap! 🔝

50s from Annabelle and Hattie set a good total and then a 5fer from Iman and 4fer from Grace wrapped up the win 💪🏼
