Your turning kick isn’t weak. You’re just not using your body correctly.

This is one of the biggest mistakes beginners make.

They chamber the kick… then keep their supporting foot and hips facing the target.

The result?

❌ Less power
❌ Less reach
❌ A kick that feels forced instead of effortless

The fix is simple.

As you throw your side turning kick, rotate your supporting foot as much as possible and allow your hips to turn through the technique. Your body should work as one unit, transferring force from the floor through your hips and into the target.

Power doesn’t come from swinging your leg.

It comes from using your whole body.

Whether you’re training Taekwon-Do, kickboxing, or another martial art, mastering this fundamental will instantly improve your speed, power and reach

Train the basics until they become automatic. That’s where real progress happens.

Stop throwing your hook from here.

If your hook starts from the other side of your body, you’re giving your opponent a free warning.

It’s slower.
It’s easier to see.
And it loses power before it even lands.

Instead, throw your hook straight from your guard.

After a sharp 1-2, keep your hands where they belong and rotate your hips and shoulders into the punch. The shortest path is often the fastest and most powerful.

Small technical changes like this make a huge difference when punching.

Train smarter. Not just harder.

Black belt grading coming up and still struggling with the Choong-Moo 360 jump?

One small adjustment can make a big difference.

For the 360 jump:
⬆️ Lift your knees high to create height and give yourself time to rotate.
🥋 Prepare your arms before you land so you can move straight into the knife hand guarding block, instead of trying to position them after you’ve landed.

Remember, the jump isn’t the end of the technique. The goal is to land balanced, controlled and ready for the next movement.

Are you grading soon? Let me know if there’s another part of Choong-Moo you’d like me to break down. 👇

If your side kick feels slow or weak, this could be why.

❌ Don’t lift your leg first and then try to kick.

✅ Bring your knee and foot up together so your foot is already aimed at the target. From there, all that’s left is to drive through with your hips.

Cleaner technique. More speed. More power.

Try it in your next session and let me know if you notice the difference.

How to make a correct fist for punching! 👊

Most beginners put the thumb inside, too far accross or leave it sticking out. 👍

It’s important that the knuckles are flat and thumb kept out of the way by placing it on the middle finger.
