New Coaches Wanted

We’re launching 4 new teams this season at U8, U9, U10 & U11 and we need more coaches / coaching assistants to provide a safe & positive environment to help our girls to develop. Roles to suit - may include leading or supporting training sessions or simply assisting on matchdays.

Mawsley Hurricanes U14s travelled to their annual pre-season friendly Super Cup match against S&L today. Mawsley were looking to retain the cup after last year’s inaugural victory. S&L are a great side with a nice group of coaches, and our games are usually close.

Mawsley welcomed three new players to their squad for this season, and this was our first opportunity to see how they gelled with the rest of the team in a match situation.

The first half was close, with Mawsley working well as a team and battling throughout to win the ball. They interlinked well from defence to midfield and through to the strikers. Mawsley were the stronger side and created three clear one-on-one goalscoring chances but failed to convert them.

S&L, missing some key players, could not transition through the pitch in their usual flowing manner, but they did hit the crossbar from a free kick, which Mawsley cleared from the rebound.

Unfortunately, the S&L goalkeeper had to be substituted following a collision with one of our players, and an outfield player stepped in.

At half time, the honours were even at 0-0.

The coaches’ talk at half time was for the players to keep working hard, battling to regain possession and trying to be more clinical in our finishing.

Mawsley dominated the second half, defending doggedly when needed, with all players committed to the effort. After Mawsley scored the first goal, S&L began to tire as they had no replacements, with several more great goals following.

Substitutions were made throughout the game, and all players contributed exceptionally well to the win. The coaches were very pleased to retain the Super Cup.

After the game, we enjoyed some hot dogs and drinks with S&L and look forward to playing them again soon when they are at full strength.

Player of the Match

• Jakub

Blake– First game for the Hurricanes today and was incredibly solid. Good distribution throughout and made saves when he needed to. A great debut.

Reggie– A very solid performance today at left back. Strong in the tackle, good energy and some impressive passing to transition the play. An incredibly reliable team member.

H**e– Playing at central defence today, which the coaches know is not her preferred position, H**e was immense. An excellent physical performance, and she had their strikers in her pocket throughout the game.

Jack G-Played right back today in two stints and was very consistent. Made some important challenges, showed good pace and, overall, had a great start to his season.

Sammi– Rewarded our decision to move him out of defence this season to allow his creativity and determination to shine. Won every challenge, broke up play and showed some excellent skills to evade the opposition. Encouraged his teammates throughout the game – a real captain’s performance.

Lorenzo– Debut for Lorenzo today at left midfield and then central midfield later in the game. Really came into the game in the second half and was rewarded with an excellent goal. An excellent debut for a very talented player.

Jakub– Such great energy from Jakub today in central midfield. Committed to pressing the opposition and giving them no time to settle; he set the tone for the rest of the midfield. Created opportunities to score himself; the goals will come. An excellent Player of the Match performance.

Alfie– Played right midfield today and was full of energy and desire, making excellent runs down the wing and delivering excellent crosses. A great corner delivery for Tom’s goal. Sometimes doubts his contribution – the coaches never do!

Jacob– A physical presence up front and was rewarded with two coolly finished goals. Hopefully, this excellent display gives Jacob some real confidence to realise the potential the coaches know he has as a fabulous striker.

Hugo-The coaches have decided to play Hugo up front this season, and he delivered a great display of committed attacking. Good energy and had several great opportunities to score. The goals will come!

Harry– Started as CDM today and then moved into an attacking position. Contributed really well and linked up well with his teammates. Worked hard to press the ball and was rewarded with a nice goal following a lovely assist from Tom.

Tom– Played right midfield today and was full of energy and desire. Scored an excellent volley directly from a corner – what a way to start the season!

Jack B– On his debut today and played central midfield. Grew into the game and linked up well with his teammates, showing good vision and contributing some nice assists. As he plays more matches, he will only get stronger and more comfortable.

Mikey– Played in central midfield today and later in the game at right back. A very strong performance; calm on the ball and found some lovely passes to his teammates. Very solid at right back, linking up well with his fellow defenders.

💛🖤 A fantastic first outing for our Under 11 Lionesses! 🖤💛

Today saw our Under 11 Lionesses play their first ever game together as a team, taking on Earls Barton in a friendly — and what a fantastic performance they put in! ⚽️🙌

You would never have thought it was their first game as a group. There was some brilliant football on display, some fantastic goals and, most importantly, it was amazing to see the girls encouraging and supporting each other throughout the game. The more experienced players were brilliant at helping and guiding the newer players, showing exactly what being part of a team is all about. 💛🖤

A huge well done to Darcy, Layla and Harper, who all played in their first ever games of football! They settled in brilliantly and should all be incredibly proud of themselves. 👏

To help make the game as enjoyable and competitive as possible, Earls Barton brought on an additional player for the majority of the match. Our Lionesses continued to show fantastic teamwork, determination and some excellent football throughout.

Earls Barton were also very complimentary about the Lionesses and the way they played, which was lovely to hear and a real credit to all of the girls. 🙌💛🖤

A special mention goes to our goalscorers, Caisey and Lyla, who both bagged themselves a fantastic hat-trick with Faith hitting a brace! ⚽️⚽️⚽️

An incredible first game and a brilliant start to the journey for our Under 11 Lionesses. The future is looking very bright for this fantastic group of girls! 💛🖤

Georgia is a JPL Warriors All star

Massive well done to Georgia on securing a place in in the JPL north all star team, it is a massive achievement and one we should celebrate at a club like mawsley

The trials were done from last years teams, G was selected for a trial and went in there and smashed it, G was with mawsley for 2 seasons having to leave only just to her team moving age group, we are so proud of this achievement, she scored over 60 goals in 2 seasons and was a leader

I’m sure her parents won’t mind me saying this, with G we all want her to realise how good she is, go to these trials and really excel and show what she can do, it sounds like she has done exactly that !!

Also goes to show if your good enough and you have a good day you can get the opportunity, regardless of not being at a team in a pathway/pro club, G was with Mawsley and now Ramsay for the season ahead, yet has still made the all star team ! That’s not to say there is anything wrong with joining clubs with pathways but it’s nice to see that it doesn’t hold you up if you perform when being at a smaller side/club

💛 🏆 Parent Of The Year 🏆 💛- Sophie McLaughlin

We as a club have so many supportive parents and we are grateful to all of you.

Sophie joined the club as a parent last summer along with her husband and children arriving from a different club.

She initially for her own team goes absolutely above and beyond with fundraising and creating amazing memories and opportunities for the boys, this alone is impressive, they are such a happy bunch who have a great bond and a lot of this is down to how much they do together from ideas Sophie has played a large part in.

Sophie during the season has always been putting her hand up to support the club in whatever way she can, so much so she has agreed to take over the social media page and is already doing some great things

As a parent we can’t of asked for more and we thank you for stepping up time and time again.

🥳 Mawsley Wildcats celebrated its 1️⃣st Birthday yesterday & the girls made a fabulous effort to celebrate in style! Glitter, headbands, hair braids & the brightest, most colourful football kits you’ve ever seen were all on display as the girls celebrated 1 year since our very first Mawsley Wildcats session!

🧁 We certainly had lots of fun, playing games & finishing with small-sided matches before handing out jelly-bean stickers, awarding our WOW! Trophy, sharing Wildcats cupcakes & finally High 11’s to say goodbye!

💖 1 year in & the group continues to grow week on week! We were delighted to welcome Izzie for her first Wildcats session - big shout out to Penelope who did a brilliant job of being Izzie’s Wildcat buddy & making her feel welcome. Penelope was only attending her 3rd session herself but showed Izzie the ropes like she had been coming along for months!!

🌟 And a huge well done to Ella who was our WOW! Wildcat of the Week. Ella is still a relatively new Wildcat but she has shown fantastic listening & been really focussed on developing her skills. She put this to really good use in the ‘3v3’ matches yesterday & it was great to see her confidence when running with the ball. Well done Ella!

💛 🏆 Coach of the year 🏆💛- Micky Braines

This year the award goes to big Micky B!! What a guy he is and what a season he oversaw with his team of coaches.

Micky like all the other winners always has so much time for everyone in the club and is a great positive role model for anyone getting in to coaching or becoming a parent helper.

On the pitch the Thundercats reached two cup finals and won the league, whilst last year we went with something else for the team related awards I really wanted to celebrate the job Micky has done over the years.

Micky does have a secret weapon the rest of us don’t, he gets to lean on the expertise of Michael D every week but despite that I feel he still deserves the award.

Well done Micky keep up the good work!

💛 🏆 Volunteers of the year 🏆 💛- Dean Edwards and Paul Harvey

This again was an extremely difficult pick , with so many people giving up so much of their valued time.

I tried to look at those that put in extra on top of coaching they are responsible for.

You of course have Jack and James who especially since Xmas have really ramped it up with the wildcats doing a great job, but I really felt over the course of the year Dean and Paul really have been outstanding volunteers, on top of the great work they do with their own team, they have also taken ownership of starting our reception groups each year, the work they have done onboarding children, parents and new coaches has been brilliant.

As well as this when ever there is something the club require support with they are always one of the first to put their hands up to support , on that I feel it’s also important to mention Simon Baines who has yet again always put his hand up to help as and when needed but for me this year the rightful winners are Dean and Paul, well done chaps we are grateful for all you do.

🏆💛Team Of The Year💛🏆- Mawsley Jaguars

This was a really tough decision as we have had so many outstanding displays across the club throughout the season.

Not just in terms of success with trophies but in terms of how much development has happened across various teams , last year we recognised progression and development with this award, this year I wanted and felt it was right to recognise the success of the Jaguars.

To win a national competition when a club the size of mawsley is outstanding, to those that don’t know they won the JPL trophy vs Woking, also doing well in the league.

The Jags have moved on to Rugby now, but I felt it was important to recognise this achievement, they have always been a top group within the club and we wish them well.
