Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells, Powys, this weekend marks the culmination of a fantastic season of team spirit, brilliant horsemanship, and long-distance adventure.

We are incredibly proud of how our grassroots community has thrived this year. With teams representing British Riding Clubs, Pony Clubs, university teams, and diverse equestrian groups from across the nation, it proves that endurance riding is truly open to everyone. No special tack is required, and horses and ponies of every shape, size, breed, and background are tackling the stunning Welsh hills!

The Welsh hills are calling! Over 160 horse-and-rider combinations are heading to the rugged Welsh plateaux for the legendary British Horse Feeds' Red Dragon Festival of Endurance. Organised by the Mid and North Wales group under Joint Organisers John Hudson and Jane Hudson, this prestigious fixture is a supreme test of horsemanship.

From the flagship 160km Speedi-Beet Red Dragon to the next-gen superstars taking centre stage in the Pony Club Endurance Championships, there are so many inspiring stories to follow this weekend.

🌿 Bodmin Moor Mizzle & Milestones! 🐴🌧️

Despite the thick Cornish fog and "mizzle" that greeted our riders at the start of the Camelford Ride, the spirit of endurance riding shone brighter than ever!

Due to the heavy mist making the route markings nearly invisible, riders were temporarily held back at the start. But in true Endurance GB style, our amazing volunteers swung into action, heading out onto the course immediately to add extra markers and ensure everyone's safety. A massive thank you to our organisers, Victoria Ham and Nicola Sherry, and the incredible South West team for their quick thinking and dedication! 🙌

Once out on the moor, riders enjoyed a spectacular route starting from the field venue, winding down quiet country lanes, crossing a ford, and traversing private fields before climbing onto the open, wild moorland.

✨ The Story of the Day: 80km GER Teamwork! ✨
The absolute highlight of the day was in the 80km GER, where all five riders showed true camaraderie by riding the entire distance together, crossing the line as a supportive team. What a fantastic demonstration of teamwork and horsemanship!

Congratulations to all five riders:
Clare Golding & Baarbarella - Grade 1 (Final HR: 40 bpm) on their 80km debut.
Kelly Dennis & CF Vilette - Performance Formula placing on their 80km debut.
Julian Johansen & CF Samuel - Grade 3 (Final HR: 50 bpm), achieving Advanced Qualification.
Tanya Southworth & CF Mirabelle - Secured Mirabelle’s Advanced Qualification.
Lesley Nott & Allaskar’s Scout - Lesley’s first 80km completion in eight years.

A huge well done to everyone who took part, from our pleasure riders to our competitive graded riders. You all conquered the moor!

🦁 What a Weekend at The Lion’s Tail! 🦁

The beautiful Stapleford Park Estate near Melton Mowbray came alive on Saturday, 12th and Sunday, 13th September 2026 for a truly spectacular weekend of endurance riding! From the beautiful field margins within the estate to the scenic bridleways and country lanes further afield, it was a weekend to remember for riders of all levels.

A massive thank you to our fantastic organisers—Paula Parker, Kathy Carr, and Megan Barradell—along with the landowners and the army of volunteers who made this event run so seamlessly.

We were also delighted to welcome Baileys Horse Feeds on Saturday as part of our Suitable Mounted initiative, offering free horse weighbridge services, body condition scoring (BCS), and expert 1-to-1 nutritional advice to support our horses’ health, performance, and recovery! 🍏💪

🏆 Standout Highlights & Inspiring Partnerships:

The 120km GER 2-Day Triumph: Huge congratulations to Charlotte Robinson and her superstar horse Valeo (Val) for winning the class with a spectacular Grade 1! Despite relentless overnight rain making the Sunday tracks slippery, Val got stronger with every kilometre, securing a brilliant finish. Right behind them in 2nd place, young rider Hollie Brewell and Cotswolds Shaquille wrapped up their final big ride of the season with an incredible Grade 1 result!

National Open Champion Success: Alex Freaks steered the homebred National Open Champion EB Raphael to 1st place in the Saturday 80km GER!

Double Grade 1 Success: A huge shoutout to Leah Duckworth and Taqaddom, who won the 40km Novice GER on Saturday and returned on Sunday to secure a joint 1st place with Deborah Timms on Beez Kneez—bringing home two Grade 1s over the weekend!

Sunday Success stories: Dominic Smith and George Bush travelled up to Rutland, corralled overnight, and flew round Sunday's 32km GER at a swift average speed of 14.6 km/h, securing 1st place and a Grade 1 with a final heart rate of just 40!

It is that time of year again! It's time for members to submit rule change proposals. Have you got a brilliant idea on how we can take our sport forward? This is your opportunity to influence the rules and direction of Endurance GB for the coming year.

Your voice is vital to our community, and we want to hear from you. To ensure your proposal is formally considered at this year's AGM, it must be submitted before our strict deadline of Friday, 25th September 2026 at 17:00 BST.

To help you draft a successful submission, please follow our annual guidance checklist below before sending:

1. Word Your Proposal Carefully
Take time to consider all the implications of your proposed change. Could the wording be misinterpreted by others? Does the wording clearly reflect exactly what you want to achieve?

2. Review and Double-Check
We highly recommend re-reading your proposal. If possible, get a friend or fellow member to read over it as well to ensure it is clear, unambiguous, and makes perfect sense.

3. Keep It Practicable
Ask yourself if the proposal is realistic, manageable, and straightforward for our organisers and officials to implement on the ground.

If submitting by email, send it to [email protected] (and do not forget to press the send button!). If you are sending it by post, please put it in the mail in plenty of time to reach the Company Secretary by the 5:00 PM deadline on Friday, 25th September 2026.

🌧️ The Famous Five: Bodmin Moor Mizzle & Milestones! 🐎✨

There is an old saying: 'To go fast, go alone; to go far, go together.' At the Camelford ride last Sunday, five incredible horse and rider combinations lived this philosophy to the absolute fullest, conquering the challenging 80km route side-by-side from start to finish!

This legendary group—now affectionately known as the 'Famous Five'—consisted of the inspiring partnerships of Claire Golding & Baarbarella, Kelly Dennis & CF Vilette, Julian Johansen & CF Samuel, Tanya Southworth & CF Mirabelle and Lesley Nott & Allaskar’s Scout.

True to form, Cornwall delivered its famous 'mizzle'—that quintessential, heavy blend of mist and drizzle that blankets the moorland (and get's you really rather wet!). But while the weather was damp, the spirits of our riders and horses were absolutely soaring. Navigating Bodmin Moor is no small feat under perfect conditions, let alone in the thick of a Cornish mist. Yet, this remarkable group decided early on that they were in it together.

Over steep inclines, open peatlands, and quiet country lanes, they kept pace with one another, offering words of encouragement, sharing snacks at checkpoints, and keeping a watchful eye on each other's mounts. Over the undulating landscape of Bodmin Moor, the riders faced testing terrain, navigating the historic granite landmarks and open sweeping vistas that make the South West so uniquely challenging for endurance sport.

Crossing the finish line of an 80km Graded Endurance Ride is a massive milestone for any individual partnership. But crossing it in unison, with all five horses vetting through successfully, is really some achievement. It highlights the absolute best of our sport: the welfare of the horse and the strength of the community.

A massive, heartfelt thank you goes out to our incredible volunteers, landowners, and organisers who stood out in the mizzle to make this day possible. You are the backbone of Endurance GB!

Three Rivers Results 🐴

It was a weekend of incredible milestones and inspiring partnerships. In the long-distance classes, Elizabeth Rowland and Drumcall Revel put in a phenomenal performance to complete the 123km 2-Day GER. As the sole entry, Elizabeth was grateful for the camaraderie on course, getting superb "tows" from Caroline Cowley and Santa Ana Mist on Saturday, and Linda Jordan on Miss Masquerade on Sunday, finishing at 11.7kph with a 51bpm heart rate.

South East member Katie Dickinson and Gerko de Tenelle topped Saturday's 43km GER, flying round at 14kph with a finishing heart rate of 40 to achieve a Performance Formula of 47.50—the highest score across the entire event! Meanwhile, Paul Simmons had a highly successful weekend; his veteran 17-year-old homebred Zayin Zachilles roared to victory in Sunday's 43km GER at 15kph (46 HR), after his young mare Protocol Zayin took third in Saturday's 34km Novice GER.

In the 51km GER, Miranda Kavanagh and Bey Dashar paced themselves beautifully despite the afternoon heat, aided by passing race riders and refreshing sugar beet water from the lovely team at CP6.

Our novice stars also shone. On Saturday, Dominic Smith and 22-year-old George Bush secured a Grade 1 win in the 25km Novice Foundation GER at 12.8kph. On Sunday, Corinne Staples and Pauldary's Nixie claimed victory in the 34km Novice GER with a Grade 1 at 12.3kph, celebrating alongside friends completing their very first endurance rides.

A massive thank you to organisers Charlotte Robinson, Frances, Mid-South Endurance Group, and the incredible volunteers, stewards, and vets who made this wonderful event run so smoothly.

🇬🇧 Incredible Teamwork and Outstanding Results in Portugal! 🇵🇹

A massive congratulations to Linda Cowperthwaite and Nikki Thorne on a sensational weekend of endurance riding at Barroca d'Alva, Portugal!

On Saturday, Linda rode the promising 7-year-old mare Pataca VB in the CEI1* 100km, navigating heat and varied terrain. Prioritising a positive and confident international debut over chasing placings, Linda and Pataca finished in an outstanding 6th place at an average speed of 16.55 kmph! 🌟

But the magic did not stop there. On Sunday, the roles reversed in a brilliant demonstration of mutual support! Linda swapped her riding boots for crewing gear to support Nikki Thorne as she tackled the CEI3* 160km. Riding ER Danique in the mare’s very first 160km ride, Nikki delivered a positive ride to finish in 16th place at 14.61 kmph! 👏💨

Linda shared these words about their memorable weekend:

"I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to ride Pataca VB, a 7-year-old mare, in the CEI 100km at Barroca... My priority was to give Pataca a positive international experience, keep a cool head and, above all, look after the horse. ... Ensuring Pataca VB finished confidently and positively was the most important thing"

What a fantastic showcase of teamwork, sportsmanship, and equine care on the world stage! We are incredibly proud of both combinations and their hardworking support teams. 🇬🇧❤️

This scenic location offers a beautiful route across managed field headlands and quiet country lanes, with minimal roadwork (only 15%)—perfect for a wonderful day out with your horse.

The star of the show at Avon Valley is the legendary Team Spirit Competition! If you love team building and sharing the joy of endurance riding, this is the class for you.

The Team Spirit is an exciting 140km relay race designed for teams of four horse-and-rider combinations. Here is how it works:

The First Pair: Two combinations from your team will set off together to tackle the 40km loop as a pair. Once successfully home, they hand over the imaginary baton!

The Second Pair: Your team's second pair takes up the baton and sets out on a 30km loop to bring the relay home.

The winning team will be the one with the shortest overall riding time combined with the highest number of successful completions. It is all about teamwork, pacing, and supporting one another! Team members will need to enter the special Team Spirit classes.
