Galashiels Red Triangle 46 – Garioch U16 12 (National Youth Cup R2, away)

Our cup campaign ends in the Borders. Gala were quick to the breakdown and held the ball well through the phases, and in tricky, windy conditions they led 27–0 inside 21 minutes.

What happened next is what we'll remember. Angus McKell finished a fine passage on the half hour, Seth Farrell threw himself into some brave last-ditch defending, and through the middle of the game the boys matched Gala phase for phase — Rory Mackay adding a converted try on 55, Luca Birkenshaw with the kick.

No heads dropped, the second half was a big step up, and they fought for all seventy minutes. A tough afternoon and a proud one.

Forward of the Match: Thomas Frost
Back of the Match: Seth Farrell
Coaches' Player: Seth Farrell

🏉 Kellands is expected to be busy tomorrow with a jam packed schedule of rugby from 9am onwards, through to the afternoon with the Women playing Stirling County at 1pm.

🚴There are additional visitors expected at the park for the Tots in Tow cycling event taking place in the memorial gardens from 10am - 4pm.

🅿️We are asking for our members to utilize the medical centers car park & Barclay street car park when picking up & dropping off at Kellands this weekend, to ensure the emergency access gate & car park can be as clear as possible for everyone's safety over the course of the day.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒Micro training - will be on the training paddock not in the memorial gardens as a result.

🚲Members are encouraged to leave the car at home & arrive by bike to enjoy some of the activities on offer for all the family, including catering vans & some extras will be available over the course of the day as part of the everbody cycles event.

Rugby is one of the most inclusive sports around - today was testimony to that!

🏉Our Walking Rugby enthusiasts Dai & Bill joined Development Officer Kim Jamieson & ASV rugby coordinator Natasha Milton to energise the evergreens at Aberdeen Sport Village.

The session was full of fun, bringing rugby to new people, new spaces & new coaches as we introduced walking sports coaching to NesCol students.

👏🏻Thank you to Aberdeen Sports Village for the opportunity to grow walking rugby across the region & to the NesCol students, for engaging in such a positive way!

👀Watch this space as ASV continue to grow their rugby offerings.

If you can’t wait to join the group at ASV, walking rugby happens across the area. From Bennachie Leisure Centre during the day, midweek to Friday nights (7pm) at Kellands Park with Garioch. You’ve options in your local area to get involved in!

We might not have the Calcutta each week at our sessions, but we do open the bar & enjoy a chance to connect over a drink together after 🍻

🏉 Garioch U16 48-15 Mackie

A gritty away win. Tough first half battling discipline and a slow start, trailing 15-12 at the break — but once we found our game in the second half, Mackie couldn't live with us, closing it out 33-0 after the break. Great fitness levels on show, with even the opposition coaches noting our intensity for the full 70.

🌟 Angus Christie and Sean Mackinnon both bagged hat-tricks, voted Back and Forward of the Match respectively.
🏆 Coaches' Player of the Match: Damian Zolinski for his unseen graft — safe hands, constant gainline breaks, and control into contact.

Lots to work on, but plenty to build on too. Onwards. 💪

Mens XV team sheet!!

Here is your Garioch men’s team to play familiar foes the police tomorrow at the Kings pitches in Aberdeen

Despite some promising passages of play, the men in gold fell to a strong Aberdeenshire team last weekend. The men are still in search of a win as they make the short journey to Aberdeen to face North Police Scotland RFC

A familiar side for the Garioch men, these two teams met often in the struggle for the top of the league table in years past. The last outing saw a 32-24 win for Garioch after a gruelling physical battle.

Travelling support is always welcome and if you’re able to, make your way down for what will no doubt be another physical and entertaining clash between these two teams.
